maggie wasn’t often someone that went on dates. throughout college it had been fun, but as an adult she had found it tiresome to try to force connections when they weren’t there. but lately she had been quite lonely. sure, there was hudson, but that was different and unlikely to go anywhere else. so, giving a man the benefit of the doubt, she found herself sitting in the juniper cafe that afternoon waiting on someone that had yet to show. at first she thought he was just running later, but now it was clear that she was being stood up. 

it was beginning to irritate her, finding herself red and embarrassed, she waved down the person nearest to her table, “hey, hey,” she said a little louder than a whisper. she hoped that she could use someone to save her from having to walk out of here feeling more embarrassed than she already was. “sit with me.” she almost grabbed them by the arm, “you would really be saving me right now.”

At first, Fox felt compelled to ignore the woman altogether. He knew coming into the town’s busiest cafes wasn’t a smart move from someone who didn’t particularly liked people but their pastries usually made it all worth it. Key word: usually. When the blonde pulled at his sleeve, almost begging him to sit with her, his first instinct was to pull out of her grip and turn the other way. Force of habit probably, after spending years running away from people and trying not to get caught.
