Mario has… rather limited knowledge of Pokemon. He came from the Mushroom Kingdom, not Galar or any of the other regions he’d heard about. So, that is why, when he sees Gloria’s Pokemon partner one day, he is intrigued. But also a little bit scared. Inteleon, it must be a reptilian-like Pokemon, huh? It’s standing on two legs. …Is it bigger than he is? Well, of course. Literally ANYONE could be taller than him. He’s 5′1′’. Heck, he would be surprised if he managed to meet people who are shorter than he is.

He doesn’t know if he should approach. He doesn’t want to start a fight with anybody, like the goody-two-shoes, pacifistic person he is.

❝Oh wow…❞ Oh goodness, oh no. He’s doing it anyway. Once again, impulsiveness overtakes reason. ❝Mamma mia! you’re-a pretty tall!❞

Then he spots the trainer.  ❝A-Ah, sorry! Please don’t be mad…! I-I was just passing by, and I couldn’t help but notice your Pokemon!❞ …That IS a Pokemon, right? He’s seen Pokemon like Charmander before. Came from “Kanto”, they said. But THIS lizard? Never seen before! He’s a curious lad.  ❝Y’see, I’ve-a seen Pokemon before… but I’ve never seen THIS particular Pokemon before! What a lovely shade of blue. What region are you from?❞

of course, it was a lot simpler to leave inteleon outside than to bring him with her into most places, his height and general appearance made sure that they’d both be getting lots of questions before getting anything done! it had become more of a regular thing for gloria to just remember answers to specific questions off of the top of her head, but inteleon definitely liked the attention he got.

which was why he was just... staring. he liked to observe whatever people do, but this guy didn’t seem to be doing much... was it the nearly one foot height difference that made this weird? must’ve been since he made a comment about it. oh, but here was his trainer, back with some snacks she had gone in to get for him, as well as her currently eating one of her own!

...something about this guy seemed familiar... but gloria wasn’t really thinking of putting two and two together right now. she seemed a lot more interested ( and maybe amused ) listening to him trying to explain something perfectly fine.

“ why would i be mad? you ain’t the first to stop and gawk at ‘im, so no need to be sorry! “ stepping closer to inteleon would give him the relief that he wasn’t the only one that was smaller than the lizard, and she then went ahead and gave him a little piece of one of the snacks. just ignore the fact that she had to stand on her tiptoes a bit... she then took that chance to put her own snack away for now. not supposed to talk with your mouth full after all. “ you haven’t? this one’s name is inteleon! used to be a cute lil’ sobble, then a drizzile. i’m from the galar region, so that might be why you haven’t seen this one! not many people travel there due to pokemon restrictions... “

Things were setting up to be an utterly average day, if such a thing even existed here. Just a few hours at the library, maybe stopping for some food, then returning to the apartments and hanging around the observatory for an early night. Except, now it looks like a wrench was thrown into her plans, as a teenage girl was curiously eyeing her from behind.

A newcomer to the city wasn’t enough to surprise her, but turning to face the youth also revealed a bipedal, reptilian creature much taller than herself. “Oh, wow…” Why, she had to take a few steps back just to look the water-type in the eye! Cornflower already accepted that with so many people coming and going, her predictions were going to be flawed, but that didn’t stop her from gaping a little in shock.

“I’m…sorry. I didn’t mean to stare. I can understand you, yes. Wait, can they understand us?” She gestured to the accompanying pokémon for the latter question. It seemed everyone here could speak to each other, regardless of original language or vernacular, so finding someone who couldn’t was a bit of a mystery.

it was fairly obvious to gloria from the moment she got her that creatures like inteleon weren’t common where most people originally came from. even she recognised the stares and glances he had received as she let him walk around next to or in front of her! so seeing the other react the way she did didn’t offend her in the slightest. instead, she waved a hand dismissively with a smile on her face.

“ och, no, it’s fine! you ain’t the first to stare at him, trust me! “ it was definitely a relief that there didn’t seem to be any language barriers here... from what she has heard from eavesdropping ( not on purpose! ), everyone is speaking the same language that she can. she probably sounds really odd with how she says certain words, however. “ and yes, he can! they’ve been with me long enough back home for me to know that! “

as if to confirm that, inteleon even made a small nod to agree with her! that reminded her of something else to mention... “ oh, right, he can’t speak! sorry if you were wantin’ to talk with him! we call ‘em pokemon back home, so you can too! this one’s name is inteleon! “

mun vs muse!

so.. i decided to test out scottish translators online.. with the phrases that are given at the start of pokemon sword / shield’s introduction.. and i’m crying.

for reference, here’s the original phrases; Welcome, one and all! Welcome to the wonderful world of Pokemon! today was going to be a peaceful day for her. she wasn’t planning on doing anything too dramatic or busy, so she was just taking the time to relax on a big plain of grass! if she had her camping gear and all her other pokemon, she’d definitely be playing with them by now... but alas, she only had one with her. didn’t mean she couldn’t play with them, however! it was just real hard to try and throw a ball past them, since they basically tower over her.

so instead, she had bought... well, a cat toy. it was like the ones they used back at home, so this would have to do! while teasing her inteleon with moving the toy out of the way whenever they went to try and grab the feather, her gaze began to move around the rest of the plain... and she could’ve sworn she saw something hiding in the shadows of the trees nearby. continuing to shake the toy, she continued to look over in that general direction before finally coming across a hint of pale yellow.

was that a mimikyu? couldn’t have been her own, they’d have ran over by now!

it shouldn’t really surprise her that the possibility of other pokemon trainers being here was likely. if anything, she wasn’t really focusing on that, and more along the lines of trying to find someone she could actually recognise... or just any signs of pokemon! if she couldn’t find anyone, then maybe the pokemon could help her do so! but for the time being, both trainer and pokemon were together in terms of gloria and inteleon.

neither of them wanted to leave each other. not unless there was certainty about where they were going.

imagine both of their surprise when they saw something that resembled a pokemon! she didn’t recognise them from her own region... so they must’ve come from elsewhere! not as great a lead as she was hoping for, but something was better than nothing! plus, she couldn’t walk away even if she wanted to, cause her inteleon was already on their way over to the other pokemon to try and communicate with them.

meanwhile, gloria was following behind a bit, looking around to see if she could find the trainer responsible for the new addition... which didn’t take quite long. her head turned to the other girl with a smile on her face, calling inteleon back over to her with a quick whistle to confirm that they weren’t running around crazily. “ hey there, mate! this one yours? they’re a real beauty! “ she would’ve continued with her introduction, but now she took the time to examine the other a little more. they... looked familiar... had she heard of them before? “ don’t take any offence, but you look kinda familiar... anything i would know you from? ...oh yeah! name’s gloria! “

food was going to be a fun experience for her. normally she only made food during camping, and she never really needed to use an oven at home... but she wasn’t too concerned about what she would be eating. it was more about what her partner was going to eat! she knew for a fact that she couldn’t make things for them every day, so she really needed to find something that they could eat without her needing to go out of her way to prepare it.

which was what led them both to head to the nearest food store to get things sorted. as long as they didn’t make a mess, then this should go just fine! although she probably should’ve thought twice before letting inteleon have free reign of choosing what they want...

at first, he seemed quite alright just examining the displays and trying to determine whether they actually liked what they were seeing or not. to be fair, it would be quite amusing ( or scary ) to anyone watching, seeing a six foot lizard-like creature wandering around a store and just examining food like a normal person. then again, was there such a thing as normal here? unfortunately for the people in the store, inteleon even began examining what they were carrying around the store, which got various reactions and several statements from gloria...

but apparently, he seemed particularly interested in what a certain redhead was holding. and gloria was already making her way over to them to make sure he wouldn’t knock the food away in disgust or something like that...

it had just become nature at this point to go ahead and buy something every time gloria found herself in a new place, or if she just found something interesting she really wanted. today, however, she wanted to see if there was anything she could buy that could potentially match the friendship necklace she had been given! she was currently wearing the sword and shield duo as one full necklace, but she was hoping to give one of the halves to someone later!

she already had someone in mind... if they were even here. they’d probably love it. if they were willing to wear a necklace.

but one thing she was never good with was figuring out what to buy. most of her clothes consisted of either things her mother bought or had herself as a child! it’d be great if she could figure out what suited her by the time she got home... but her inteleon just taking shirts and things off of the shelves to show her wasn’t really helping. so, she had to eventually cave in and ask someone for help...

and she just had to ask one of the more colourful people there! colourful people had great style back at home, so it must be the same here. hand tapped on the other’s shoulder as the question began coming out of her mouth. “ excuse me... i kinda need help with something. i wanna try and come up with some clothes that match this lil’ necklace here, but i’ve never done this before, and my partner is doing an awful job. “ cue a glance over to the inteleon that was now trying to get everything back on the shelves. oh, and also a quick show-off of the necklace. “ could ya help me? totally okay if you can’t, mate! “
