They waited a few minutes longer to make sure Chic could sleep soundly without being disturbed. After carefully closing the door just enough to make sure they didnât wake her by accident, Carbide sighed and turned to the others. All of Star Force was gathered next door to discuss the incident. Considering what just happened, they had to be sure she was in fact herself rather than the murderous personality which tried to attack them. But Star Force couldnât help keeping their conversation to themselves, just in case.
She did say they were always watching.
âSo,â he sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose with two fingers. âDo we have a Code Tilted on our hands?â
The first one to speak up was Red Knight. âI hate to admit it, but yeah. Chicâs team is f*cking ruthless. If they did to their other agents what they did to her, I think we can say the island is in way more danger than we originally thought.â
âAnd she said the groupâs name was A.L.T.E.R.?â Field Surgeon chimed in, arms crossed over her chest. âAs in, the opposite of Team E.G.O.?â
âYeah. Some other girl had the same gas mask symbol sewn on her pouch that Chic has on her strap.â
âThis is badâŚâ Drift put his hands behind his head, huffing so his bangs relocated up off his forehead. âIf theyâre anything like Alpha Dark-â
âThey are nothing like Alpha Dark.â
The three save for Thomas turned their heads to glance at Carbide, his brow furrowed in frustration.
âAlpha Dark believed in survival of the fittest, that only the best of the best deserved to live. They knew when to exercise mercy. but A.L.T.E.R.? These guys donât care about the lives or the things theyâre taking. They do everything for their personal benefit without considering the casualties. Robberies, assassinations, terror attacks, theyâre all on the table.â
âAnd Iâm guessing E.G.O. hasnât straightened them out yet?â
Carbide squinted, as if what his friend just asked was the dumbest question he heard all week. âNo, Drift. They havenât. Iâve been doing some digging while you guys were taking care of Chic. These guys are practically clones of E.G.O. Perfect doppelgängers who can match if not outright beat them at every turn. How is that not obvious?â
âWell how the heck am I supposed to know any of this upfront? My eyes arenât glued to the security feed every waking moment like yours.â
âGuys, get a grip.â Redâs voice cut in, before she closed her eyes and huffed. âGetting agitated isnât gonna do us any good. We need to buckle down and come up with a plan. The longer we let A.L.T.E.R. run free on the island, the worse things are gonna get until it reaches a point the damage becomes irreversible. Reaper, what do you think about all this?â
The four turned their full attention to the team ringleader, who had a hand placed to his chin in contemplation. Reaper looked deep in thought, gaze pensive while he stared at the floor.
Reaper straightened his cuffs, swept a hand over his neatly combed hair, and with a serious look in his eyes breathed in a steady stream of air before pulling out his communication device.
âCall our new associates, and inform them to meet us at the base on Mount Kay.â
âWeâre going to need everyone.â
