I've felt guilty about my short teaching experience for a long time. Now I see it offered me personal experience with the problem. Learning is a process. No matter how processed-based we tilt our methods, the underlying structure of our educational system is starkly performance-based, measuring the progress as the product. It teaches students that they cannot learn because they did not get it right the first time; it undoes any fine goals of cultivating life-long learners. We must change this if we ever hope to achieve the purpose of education.
