Ghost Pipe and Rusty Patched Bumble Bee The Ghost Pipe (Monotropa uniflora), despite looking like a type of fungus, is actually a flowering plant that grows in damp areas of forests in North America. The ghostliness of its appearance comes from its lack of chlorophyll. Instead of getting its nutrients from the sun, it has a parasitic relationship with the mycorrhizal fungi attached to the roots of photosynthesizing trees. The relationship is largely benign, but still one-sided. Ghost Pipes are an example of Melittophily, where flowers pollinated by bees. In this case they seem to be pollinated by the common Rusty Patched Bumble Bee (Bombus affinis). Monotropa attract the bumble bees with nectar which the bees drink, and pollen which the bees carry back to their hives for food. ⬆️ Do not be deceived by appearances, what at first appears weak may hide strength. ⬇️ Dependence can cause fragility. Be careful where one puts all of one’s roots.

In parts of Scandinavia it is said that if a woman murders or exposes an unwanted child, that child will become a Myling. These small phantoms are forced to roam the wilds, wailing in anguish at their mothers crime.

Sacred scarab mini block prints. You can see I just cut a 4x6 block into smaller pieces. I printed in black, teal, and a teal to red ombre. Drew, carved and printed last night. I draw directly onto the block since I prefer to have a messier and more human look to my blockprints.
Lizard skeleton (and cut-out silhouette) decoupage. Finished the last of these today.
