Honestly, Northstar lived such a lonely life, like he was a foster kid from six until he bailed on that and wound up stealing to get by. Was only a teenage still dealing with his developing powers when he met Belmonde and found a father figure in him. Not that it mattered since JP left that to leave the country and joined a circus for awhile.
Eventually he fell in love with skiing and even became famous for it, but was banned from competitive skiing after his powers were made public.
And then there’s the fact that he keeps himself at a distance from most people, only to throw himself whole heartedly at the chosen few like his sister, Kyle and Bobby. Like, sure, now he has a good amount of friends and people close to him, but that took years to develop and acclimate to after a lifetime of loss and depending largely on himself.
Jean-Paul has such a dirty weak spot for Simple Plan’s first album. It’s not a great album looking back on it. Kind of obnoxious and brash in a way that speaks to teenage angst, but he was around that age when it came out and he connected to things like I’m Just A Kid and Perfect. Especially Perfect. It spoke to something massive and disgusting he felt was just a feeling only he suffered through and it was largely set to an upbeat tempo.
And listening back on the album, it still ignites some small little angst fire in him that he would otherwise deny having.

Of all the holidays in the world, Walt really isn’t a Hanukkah fan. It’s not only a very minor holiday that’s only important when you’re a kid, in his opinion, it’s also one of those holidays that he spends time with his son (and ex wife) and gets the joys of remembering that ever since his divorce he hasn’t been around as much as he would like to be as a father and that his son is more likely to see him in the news than in person due to his involvement in the hero world and the fact that he mostly lives in space now.
