The Hyperfixation Dungeon

So Varjo was originally an outsider who wandered into Her territory by accident while starving and delirious. She was allowed to stay as the cult believed She had allowed Varjo to join (similar to Sugarpaws from canon). Varjo stayed with the cult for food and shelter but simply played along with their beliefs so she wouldn't be cast out. Really she hated the god and saw Her as a beast.

Varjo wanted to have kittens but was terrified that she would birth the next suncat, so she mated with a non-sunfurred tom to avoid this. However, her one kitten was born with a sunfur and became the next suncat (naturally Varjo did not take this well lol).

(Just to give a bit of context here, my story takes place in the earlier days of the cult when suncats were still raised by their parents, which is why the kitten was not taken at birth)

When Suncat was a little older, Varjo attempted to kidnap Suncat from the cult, believing that taking Suncat from Her territory would force Her out. She was stopped by Suncat's guard and got into a fight with him (this is how she got her scar and lost her eye) and eventually ended up killing him. After this she and Suncat ran away, and Varjo gave Suncat the name Voikukka.

They lived outside of Her territory for about a month but were eventually tracked down by a group of cats from the cult, who fought Varjo for Voikukka. Varjo was killed in the fight and Voikukka was taken back to Her territory. As Voikukka's guard was killed, a senior guard volunteered to take his place.

Voikukka did not have a good relationship with Senior Guard. He was cruel and manipulative, teaching her that she was damaged when her mother took her away, and could only win back Her favour by being the perfect suncat. Voikukka tried her best to be perfect, but always had her mother's words in the back of her mind, telling her that the god was a monster. She didn't want to die, but Senior Guard told her that it was a sin to feel that way.

One day, while on a walk, Voikukka met an outsider named Piikki, an adventurer who had entered Her territory to see if the rumours about the beast living there were true. They quickly developed a friendship, and Voikukka would sneak away to meet them in secret. She knew she wasn't supposed to speak with outsiders, but Piikki interested her. He seemed so happy and free, and it made Voikukka realise that perhaps she could have a life for herself, away from Her.

Eventually, Voikukka attempted to run away, seeking freedom. She was stopped by Senior Guard, and begged him to let her leave. He wouldn't listen and tried to drag her back to the barn. They got into a physical fight, but Voikukka was easily able to overpower Senior Guard as he was too afraid to harm Her. Realising that Senior Guard wouldn't let her go, Voikukka killed him on impulse.

After she killed Senior Guard, Voikukka ran away and soon ran into Piikki. Piikki encouraged Voikukka to rum away with her, so they escaped Her territory together.
