Description: Intimate Lighting is a Czech drama film directed by Ivan Passer. It is widely considered as a major film of the Czechoslovak New Wave and to be Passer’s most significant film. It follows the adventures of a professional symphony musician, Peter, who comes to a small town to see a friend he has missed, Bambas. He is a teacher and performer at funerals. The two meet again and get involved in some comic exploits, including a possible symphony concert. Krzysztof Kieslowski placed it on his Top Ten list for a Sight & Sound magazine poll. Dave Kehr, formerly of the Chicago Reader, called it “one of the finest works of the short-lived Czech New Wave.” The New York Times noted that it was one of those movies that “loses none of its charm, to age or to repeated viewing”
