theres always a lot of things for me to talk about with food fantasy, but it's always hard to make it into a short blurb because it needs to be an entire rant that involves comparing it to the current gacha mobages now (and writing my rants arent good for my sleep schedule)
before saying anything nice about food fantasy, it's important to note that funtoy isnt a "problematic-free company" and theres a likelihood of generative ai (especially in this hell climate) being used for more recent food souls, but it's not going to be easy to notice and up for debate
that aside, it's interesting how little feedback they get from us. (obviously they respond to feedback from their mainland players). but other than that, food fantasy really does its thing without input from us. like. it's absolutley **never** perfect every time, but they handled the skintone of newer food souls better than how hoyoverse responded to a boycott and barely made a difference with the melanin of their characters
and like. food fantasy never even got our input. one of the artists just decided to actually use a saturated brown and food fantasy ran with it. (yes, theres the issue with the food souls' inaccurate culture attached to said art).
but at least they tried; there are plenty of mobage companies with the only-pale-characters-can-exist-within-society complex where they actively avoid engaging with anybody with melanin (aka the type of artists that makes up poor excuses to not draw tan/brown/black characters)
but with funtoy, it's really just going to depend on the artists they hire (and if those artists put effort into learning about the culture behind the food; aka 'how the fuck did you whitewash a white woman' @ ratatouille artist)

[a quick + dirty guide for getting back into food fantasy]
1) You need to do the tutorial in order to sign into your account. I hate it. My buddy hates it. We all hate it. But you need to speedrun it.
When you click on your profile, it should take you to "Personal Info" and the following buttons:
[Account] [Help] [FAQ] -> Tap [Account] -> "Sign in with [x]"
2) When you have restored your OG food fantasy account, there's going to be a lot of things to do and can feel overwhelming. There's going to be a tab for "returning users" where they give you a few freebies.
But here's a priority breakdown to figure out what to do if you're feeling like it's a lot.
#1: Check Mail (there could be freebies in there)
#2: Load Airship (it has an 8hr cooldown)
#3: Trials -> Replenish (you get a 2x bonus for the first few days)
#4: Restaurant (don't ignore it, that's your gold/tips income; fight dine-n-dasher for the dailies)
#5: Fishing Hole (buy bait, fish, buy ingredients)
#6: Balcony (get your seasoning to level up food souls' skills)
There's other time-sensitive events, but you can figure them out later because you will need brain effort to manage teams/power level/etc. And some tasks have less penalties (like explorations) are often things you have to do for "Returning User" missions.

to tell you the truth, only a handful amount of people play food fantasy right now (including me personally)
yeah, im here because i still occasionally think about the characters; there's something about the way these food souls were written that makes me still feel attached to them. funtoy attempts to string the 'current lore' together with a specific cast of food souls, but it's still possible to study the characters and imagine what type of scenarios they have to face
although, i tend to keep a lot of these thoughts to myself instead of posting them (bad habit oops). and sometimes you won't hear a lot from this blog. (dont have a lot of time to blog about food fantasy because im at a time in my life where i cant always fixate on my interests).
only a few people talk about it. but it's more like everyone is attached to a specific set of food souls and will only speak about those food souls.
overall, it's kind of an environment where you get to enjoy the content of food fantasy at your own pace (and with your own rules). there's no hype train or pressure to get into it. and that's sort of the appeal when 'getting back into food fantasy'.
[unrelated rant below]
right now, the era of gacha mobages are declining (to me, at least). sometimes it's due to ai usage in the art/story (IDV IP), the overall story reaching an end (twst IP), or the game is getting milked to death MCU style in order to keep it a relevant cash cow (cookie run IP) ....then there's hoyoverse's lack of visual diversity in character design (but people still play it because it's not an actively dying mobage)
the reason why i decided to play food fantasy more often today is mostly due to the current quality of cookie run; a majority of the CRK designs are suffering genshinifcation, the story is being written in a way that is specifically served to create more legendary/whalebait characters for the next 10 years, lack of physical merch because they want their players to ONLY use their money on digital cosmetics ingame, and overall, it wasn't worth my time anymore.
not only that, but CRK demands you play on the latest device and still quits within the first 5min of doing dailies because they kept shoving too many mechanics with every update.
after CRK refused to load, i decided to just open up food fantasy. and holy fuck. a game that could actually run on a phone. all of the mechanics are the same and still fucking broken. nothing translated. BUT. IT RAN ON MY PHONE WITH NO ISSUES. no ads constantly bombarded in my face. a bunch of new food souls i didnt care about.
but i fucking loved all of it. food fantasy is probably one of the last few gacha mobages that actually feels true to itself. it's obviously still a whale game, but im really happy that food fantasy didn't try to become something else. it's still gay. some of the character designs have stupid choices. you can shut up global chat. your bread bowl has trauma. the character designs are upfront horny no matter the gender. it treats women as actual characters instead of generic anime girl archetypes. it doesnt have graphics-that-kill-your-device. the devs recycle their assets (affectionate).
however, if you feel like food fantasy is too empty, the other mobages that i will recommend you playing is either
a) Arknights (not casual)
b) Reverse 1999 (casual)
these are genuinely high quality gacha mobages that put a lot of care into the design and story. (aka it doesnt feels like it's burning in a trashfire).
however.... if you don't like the serious tones of those games.... unfortunately, i actually will have to recommend "Cat Fantasy", the sister, high-quality (in terms of gameplay) mobage to Food Fantasy. it's got some of the similar elements to food fantasy (gay+trauma), but.... the character design leans towards Blue Archive's art direction (but more stupid because funtoy likes to be silly with catgirl anatomy). it's definitely more of a "fun vibe" compared to r:1999, but you need to be able to tolerate the the character design.
Cat Fantasy is essentially if Food Fantasy got an upgrade and it's EXTREMELY. YURI. HEAVY.

per wikipedia, roughly 8% of mainland china's population is non-han chinese. while this does not account for immigrants nor for the diversity of complexions within ethnic groups, it does give me a point of comparison when comparing playable characters made in mainland china against the local playerbase.
disclaimer: i myself am han chinese and vary between light-skinned to an olive, depending on sun exposure.

HoK's key selling point was the ability to play as historical chinese figures but then there was a government crackdown on "misleading" historical fiction (cue a period where no new historical figures were added to the game).
ęåęę± GHENGIS KHAN -> č CANG: the character of ghengis khan (central asian man who once conquered most of eurasia, china included) was reworked into a generic (i.e. ambiguously east asian) "raised by wolves" character. this came after years of neglecting the character entirely (presumably to avoid seeming too anti- or too pro-han chinese).

having crossover ship between a character-from-a-popular-fandom x a character-from-a-niche-fandom is extremely difficult and embarrassing because you have to doxx your tiny fandom if you wanna talk about it
like the moment that someone in big fandom sees my crossover ship with niche fandom (food fantasy in this case) they'll know my exact location in the ff fandom via small population and typing style
