you know what really gets to me too about all this is that like, beyond the obvious and oft-stated fact that a Huge plurality of transfems online use their presences and audiences to eke out a means of survival in some way or another, there is a very obvious social component to survival that is being completely brushed aside here to suit certain rhetorical ends.
like, the semantics of specific terminology aside. is there not already a full-on epidemic of suicide amongst trans women? is it not obviously going to be a colossal contribution to the pressures on someone to commit to the act if you were to revoke her access to her peer group? further still, if you were to slander her name and make sure that there is now an inescapable paper trail of accusations tailing her wherever she goes?
and none of that even takes into account the other incredibly obvious and deliberately-ignored fact that this same plurality of girls are often only able to exist as themselves online. maybe you're trapped in hostile living conditions, maybe your surroundings outside are hostile, maybe you simply don't have access to clothing, makeup, hormones, or anything else that would allow you to meaningfully transition in any way but changing a set of pronouns. what happens to those girls when you delete the vessel that they've poured all of themselves into just to live?
social ostracization has a body count, entirely by itself, without further qualification. ripping people out of their local communities, friend circles, support systems, families, etc is not something you can just handwave away as being "not real" and therefore undamaging. what the fuck is wrong with you
