Me trying to get back into posting shit after working to the bone the last 4 months on an animated commercial where I was the sole artist. I’m still a bit burnt out but I’m coming back around. I’m working on some facial variations of the Yellow Crested Rahgar so you can see how different individuals might look. I have some paintings and blurbs on other species in the works as well. Stuff to come.
I’m also updating the render style of this project if you couldn’t tell. I have newer and better brushes, and I much prefer the finish of these little illustrations in comparison to my last drawing of the Yellow Crests.
The Yellow Crests are the smallest species of Rahgar, with the largest populations concentrated in the savannah regions to the west of Ecaran’s capital. They also thrive in steppe regions.
Physically, Yellow Crests are built like songbirds. Their short, broad wings and smaller size give them quick takeoff speeds, which help them evade predators more easily.
Though their takeoff speeds are fast, they lack stamina and cannot reach great heights compared to other Rahgar species. While they are very agile in the air, their ability to fly at high altitudes is not their strongest trait.
Yellow Crests also possess some burrowing capabilities. They have short, shovel-shaped claws similar to those of rabbits. Many years ago, they used these claws to dig burrows and construct mud nests. While this practice is rare today, it is still common to see chicks trying to build burrows or forts as part of their play.
Speaking of chicks, the nestlings depicted here are about six months old and still have very clean downy feathers. This is not typical, but it highlights how gray their coloration is in comparison to the adults. Adult females generally blend into their surroundings, while the males tend to be more flamboyant in appearance. Depending on the parentage, some chicks may exhibit gold flecks in their plumage, which could also be influenced by environmental factors.
There she is. Another one of my characters from F.O.E. Spooky vibes and all.

The Kula show has its winners
Two of them I decided. Since it is the 2k celebration.
Congrats @weird-wayne-yankovich and @clownplague for the incredible designs and victory.
However, everyone's work was so good I had an extremely tough time deciding so I tried to capture many more of my favorites on here (the harvest was plentiful this year).
As last time I will draw something for the two winners.
To those who didn't get to be on the announcement art, I loved your creatures to death. Thank you all so much.
I love all their shapes and colours. They are all presented like they are part of a dog breed show.
Cute but strange little aliens. They remind me of puffins for some reason.
An older design and colour test for the yet to be named plains or grassland Rahgar. This was before I changed the Rahgar to have crests instead of horns. The design is being heavily reworked currently though here you can more clearly see inspiration from jackalopes, which is becoming more subtle in my new designs.
Some crest and facial shape exploration for the plains or grassland Rahgar.
Another creature from my F.O.E. world building project. This one is called a Fleef.
Fleefs are a small filter feeder species native to the freshwater streams and rivers of the continent Catazorn. They generally like to live in fast flowing waterways where they can sift through the particles in the water for food. The Fleef is part of a familial group called Momerah, characterized by flattened bodies to reduce drag and nostrils positioned at the top of their head. They also have a foremost pair of arms derived to be filter feeding arms. Their arms look similar to shrimps.
Also hear is a terrible WIP of one swimming.

Meeshah Aussk is another character from my F.O.E. project. She is from a dragon-like intelligent species called the Rahgar. She is a power hungry witch/wizard that constantly tries to better her skill. To give a witchy appearance to her character I have made her look more haggard with her stance and her head feathers appearing like matted hair. Heavy body modifications are an indicator to how far she will go in the pursuit of her goal.
The colour studies is where I was trying to find the right level of contrast between her feathers, clothes, and tattoos. She is part of a subspecies of Rahgar called the crabars. The females have black and white body colours. For Meeshah I made her whites darker since her character will be associated with shadows.
I am quite happy with her design here, especially with the face. I do however want another go at the bodies’ colour pattern. I like how Liel’s came out with the colours and pattern having a bit of a bird feel to it and I didn’t succeed in achieving that with Meeshah here. I also am not a huge fan of how the front angle came out. I will have to try again.
Experimenting with a world building project of mine. This specifically is a character in said project named Liel. I am really proud of how the hands turned out. The species Liel is part of, has no thumb, instead they have an outgrown wrist bone. I used the giant panda’s paw as a reference.
New profile picture.
The teeth of a crabeater seal
Specially evolved for sieving krill & small crustaceans out of the seawater! These highly adapted seals are the most abundant species of pinniped on the planet.

I love their teeth, it's so crazy looking. I wonder if they are able to eat other things though, with all the small thin pieces sticking out.
