Originally answered: What is the best part of being an INFP?

It’s nice to think about positives since usually, I’ve been a bit gloomy in the past. 😅

Imagination. That’s probably my absolute favorite thing about being an INFP. I love being able to come up with all sorts of ideas, outcomes, scenarios, and what-ifs for just about any situation. Sometimes I’ll do nothing but sit and imagine scenes in my head for hours. 😅

Emotions. I’ve listed emotions as a negative, but they’re also a positive. I love feeling love! I enjoy the rushing tingles that roam across my skin and bubble in my chest when a favorite person appears. That feeling of wanting to spin around under a misty drizzle while daisies fall from the clouds and land in my hair. 😄

Being different. I’ve listed this before as a negative because it can feel lonely being different. But it’s also exciting. Not in a ‘special snowflake’ sort of way. In a way that feels like you have a secret that someone else may not know because you can think and perceive the world from a different perspective. It’s like having access to a realm that not many people are aware of. This is great to tap into when writing stories!

Sensitive. Being sensitive isn’t always bad. It can be useful when relating with other people, understanding life from their perspective, and finding ways to help them feel better. This makes for a good listener who can help put people at ease.

Strong values. Values are basically an INFP’s inner guideline or code they follow, and these values may not coincide with society. I have high regard for people who have such values and are able to follow them no matter what someone else thinks. Such as, I value truth and honesty and make it a point to try to be honest in all areas of my life. At the same time, I’ll lose instant respect for dishonesty. Inner values give me an internal strength that helps with making decisions.

Fun. Probably not the first thing people think of in relation to INFPs but I think INFPs are just overall fun people, especially when we’re around our loved ones. I know that I can be rather silly and enjoy making others smile.

Perfectionism is not a growth mindset. Getting things wrong, making mistakes, and learning from them is the basis of learning. If you got perfect grades, you’re not challenging yourself enough.

Perfection is an impossible, vaguely-defined endgoal. If you were the best, what is there left to do? You’re not here to perform feats of academic success - you’re here to learn.

Don’t sweat the small details. Will a couple percentage points on an assignment or even a final grade matter in the long term? Employers often don’t look at your GPA. They look at your skills. Focus on becoming a flexible learner, not a rigid perfection-driven drone.

You need to finish. Your assignment will never be perfect and there will always be room for improvement. It’s better to hand in an imperfect product than to not hand in anything at all.

Set reasonable goals. To err is human. Don’t set yourself up for failure. Develop reasonable goals and strive for them. Celebrate reaching a standard of good enough, which isn’t always perfect.

Just do it.  You need to get something done. Don’t let your idea of perfection paralyze you. Make a messy product. You’re not going to get it right the first time. You can always edit and refine the product later.
