The idea behind my animations were based on the relationship between matter and observer. They pose the question "Would reality and the physical world really exist without ad conscious observer to witness it?" It is kind of like saying "If a tree falls and no-one was there to hear the did it make a sound?" Everything we behold in our universe as beautiful wouldn't really have the same value if there wasn't anyone to see it. It is like we are in unison with the matter around us, unfolding an uncertain future photon by photon. The characters I play are observers that are unaware of their surroundings but as soon as they notice, everything else just becomes real.

The box is now officially finished. I am extremely proud of what I have achieved so far. The lengths I went to and the problems I faced were all worth it because I created something I have been visualising in the middle of the project. The feedback I received when telling my idea wasn't great because people didn't really understand how it was going to work, but I was determined to make it work. All the research into projection methods and types of projectors allowed me to find the perfect projector.
This is my animation playing on the cube. I was extremely happy with the way it turned out. I would have preferred it to be in the dark since it brongs out the colours a lot more.

When building the box I had to think about ventilation. There needs to be good airflow so the electricals do not overheat inside. I used the plywood I was going to use to make an LEd matrix panel and cut it up to make vents. The size of the circles were perfect because they allowed air to flow through no problem.
The acrylic sheets were up in the box and remained there quite sturdily. I immediately placed my ultra short throw projector inside to see if it fits the screen and it fit perfectly, covering the entire screen. Tom and I had to remove the wrapping with the branding on it but kept the second wrap behind it so it can be used to make the clear acrylic white instead of spray painting it.
Tom drilled some slots for the acrylic to pass through which was hugely successful.
This is the finished base. Well, almost. The timber by itself wasn't thick enough to hold 4ft acrylic sheets so I needed some 3cm thick wood which Adam found some 3.5cm at the FEED Studio. It didn't fit the 4ft sheet so Tom came up with the idea of drilling some slots on the corners so the acrylic can easily slide through.
I learned that spray painting on MDF evenly does not guarantee a finished look. On the image on the left you can clearly see bits of MDF showing, which I hated. It didn't look professional at all. I found some deep black paint which I used. Tom was kind enough to lend me his roller which had a nice smooth texture to it. So the box didn't have an obvious wooden look.

I was able to ask my next door neighbour for his van to drive to the venue so I can set up my installation. I went to homebase and got some timber to start building and entirely new frame. The frame I showed you had a lot of faults, it was uneven and had so many screws sticking out. This new frame was immaculate, I think the reason it was so successful was because I was able to have more space to move around it instead of a smaller soace like my room. I used the same MDF since it was perfectly fine and undamaged. Just a bit of sanding at the top to make it perfectly even made this box perfect. I wanted to keep the top white but after conducting an informal pole, my classmates insisted I make it black along with the mdf.
Dmitry Kawarga's 'Object-antiobject. Superposition'. Two robotic objects interact with one another at Quantum Entanglement exhibition, part of FutureEverything Moscow festival. Photo: Oleg Zhirov There is a forum called the 'Laboratoria Art & Science Space' that allows artists and scientists from various fields to interact with eachother. This helped create this sculpture inspired by quantum entanglement.
In Moscow, Quantum Physics Meets the Visual Arts It turns out I'm not alone in presenting quantum physics through visual art
I found it extremely difficult building my final piece at home. Since there was little space in my room, I couldn't build the frame with legs because I couldn't take it downstairs, even building it outside was a challenge. I snapped one of the acrylic sheets, the first sheets I ordered were 2mm thick, which I should have thought about prior to buying. Even the spray paint job was frustrating. But I didn't give up.
We went to visit an art exhibition by Rachel Maclean, but the installation that caight my attention the most was this one. I forgot the name of the artist behind it but I felt hugely inspired by it because he uses the same things I am interested in, which is 3d animation and projections. I felt a bit uneasy watch this animation since it failed to cross the uncanny valley for me. I think this because of the facial motion capture (which is something I want to do in the future). It just didn't seam real, which was really interesting because it seemed that was he was going for. I really loved the projector that was used, it was extremely bright which lit up the entire room.

I visited the Ikon gallery because there was an exhibition by Jean Painlevé who is a photographer and filmmaker who work with underwater life. I went to this exhibition because I wanted to see firsthand different types of art installations that could work with my final project. The installation was mainly projection on large screens. I really enjoyed watchibg the videos at this scale because it almost submerges you into the screen since it's much larger than you.
This project I have been experimenting using the Kinect for Xbox and a plugin by Kobold Animations to create some motion capture performances. I felt a lot more confident with this because I knew this wasn’t me being watched but the character I was playing.
Microsoft is now aiming their kinect sensor at artists. So I took this chance to turn it into a motion capture device. I could capture my movements which turns them into motion capture data, then I import it into cinema 4d which I used to create this animation.
