The misogyny in some sides of the selfship community makes me so sad. I feel like it comes from the usual sexism in fandom spaces anyway, women and young girls have always been mocked for crushing on characters, while guys being sexually attracted to female characters and constantly sexualising them is fine and ‘normal’?

So many female selfshippers who ship with male characters are dissed, or get harassed for shipping with a ‘gay’ male character when it’s not even confirmed and often disproven by canon? Also bi people exist? I honestly don’t think it’s a crime if some 15 year old girl is thirsting over a anime boy you personally headcanon as mlm. Scribbling selfship art of you and a gay character in private isn’t going to make you homophobic or erase all queer representation ever. Also a character isn’t only defined by their sexuality, and I personally don’t think it’s wrong if someone is heavily attached to a character for a lot of reasons and doesn’t see their sexuality as a barrier to stop them fro having a crush on them. Like they’re not real. Sending hate mail over a harmless wholesome selfship is insane. As long as the selfshipper isn’t actively promoting bad things, isn’t homophobic and all that then what’s the issue? Just headcanon them as bi and live with it. Block and move on. There are literal proshippers who are actively trying to post gross things for the purpose of being gross, a girl fantasising about being treated right is not that bad 😭
