Cutting his wheel, he brings them into a tight turn before backing up into a specific spot. It was away from the brighter lights in town, but in the not-so-far distance was a 24/7 gas station; he thought that would make her feel safer. A killer boy wouldn't take his victim somewhere where she could easily get help. This probably wasn't the best spot in town, but he did pull out here to sleep sometimes because he could open up the van door at night and get a good view of the stars. Plus, there was a tree just close enough that he could set up a hammock between it and his van.

“Wow, a woman who won't go total FBI agent on me by sneaking into my phone and checking out my search history and socials? No one has scooped you up yet? How did that happen?” Unbuckling his seatbelt after parking the car, he slips out from his seat and moves into the back of the van. Opening the sliding door from the inside and sitting on the edge. “C'mon over, we have stolen snacks to work through.”

His theory kind of distracts her for a moment and she makes a mental note to ask about it later. And about him. She definitely wants to know more about him, too, she thinks as she unbuckles her own seatbelt and follows him into the back of the van.

"Just to put all cards on the table---" Well, almost all cards. "---I can. Tech's easy. Computers and phones are better than people. Most people. But you haven't done anything to warrant that and also, it's sort of pretty much a boundary violation, so..."

A beat and then: "I'm a Brown, queer girl who's probably some flavor of neurodivergent, writing a vade mecum on Eastern Vampires. That's not exactly scooping up material."

Getting caught up in toxic thoughts was something that, he thinks, everyone has done before. Overthinking those topics that cause them the most pain. Could be hard to do what you should, let them go.

And he thinks there is something about vamps. Maybe some of their past habits are amplified, not that the reason this happened matters. All that matters is to help her relax from it.

“Can you latch on to good things, too? Latch onto me, don't I feel real? My touch makes you feel something, doesn't it?” A hand soothes up and down her back as he holds her, hoping it helps ground her to him. “You're not in some bad place, you're here with me, the weirdo guy who for some reason you seem to like.”

Maybe, one day, if he wanted to, she'd let him walk her memories. That way, he could see it for himself. She doesn't think she's got enough words to describe what was done to her and what she has done to others.

It's something she'll spend the rest of her un-life trying to atone for.

"Mhm," Flori murmured. "You're real. Warm." And decidedly not weird. If he's weird, then she's---wait, that holds no water; she is weird. For this. For all of her Flori-isms. "Good. You're good." with all his melodramatic melancholy, bree feels like she could make a solid argument that edward would absolutely kick himself in the balls if it meant more torture to wallow in. but maybe she's being ungenerous because of her lingering anger... not to mention how the argument falls flat when one considers how she's hiding in a tree.

she's not wrong. men are on another level of annoying. case in point? her ex boyfriend. and her sire. and her progenitor. there's only a handful of guys she can stand, really.

flori is quick to clamber upwards as well, picking out a sturdy branch to sit on, smiling as she does. she's very aware that she shouldn't be playing favorites, but bree very much is her favorite cullen-adjacent person.

she is surprised, though, at the fact that ol' eddie's the first to bear the brunt of bree's anger; if she were a betting woman, which she's not, but if she were, she would have bet on jasper. and then it'd be a toss-up between edward and emmett. and maybe then carlisle. and then everyone else. potentially.

"doubt it, believe it or not, she's got a sense of humor beneath her clumsiness. and in the highly unlikely event that she is, well, i'll vouch for you."
