Current law prohibits abortions after 24 weeks of pregnancy unless the mother’s life is at risk. The new law (house Bill 1047)will require woman to have a doctor determine whether a fetus is viable before having an abortion and bans an abortion unless the doctor can certify in writing that an abortion is necessary to save the mother’s life or physical health.

Feedback please. Is anybody paying attention to what's happening in Florida? "House Bill 1047 bans abortions once a fetus is considered viable, which is typically at 23 weeks of gestation. The new law, which passed with a partisan vote in the Legislature, replaces Florida's existing ban on abortions starting in the third trimester, which is about two weeks after the new standard... Among other restrictions, HB 1047 requires that: Two physicians certify in writing that, to a reasonable degree of medical probability, the termination of the pregnancy is necessary to save the pregnant woman’s life or avert a serious risk of substantial and irreversible physical impairment of a major bodily function of the pregnant woman other than a psychological condition."

The decision to grant admitting privileges to doctors is generally a function of the business arm of the hospital, and part of what those decision-makers take into consideration is how many patients - and how much money - a doctor will bring in. So abortion providers - who almost never transfer patients to hospitals - may not be able to get privileges precisely because abortions are so safe.

This powerful image is from one of the memorials last night for 16-year-old Maren Sanchez.

Maren was stabbed to death in her high school stairwell on the morning of the prom. She was killed for allegedly turning down a young man’s invitation to be her prom date.

Her classmates paid tribute by dressing up, and bringing out the gown she would have worn to the prom. Even though this memorial was a sorrowful and traumatic event, the students smiled through their tears for the camera because… Maren would have wanted them to be happy on their prom night.

I grew up in Milford, CT, and I live about 15 minutes away from Jonathan Law High School. My partner attended JLHS and I have friends with family members who currently attend.

With the Sandy Hook shooting in December 2012, I can’t believe that here we are again, just a year later, with another tragedy in a Connecticut school.

My heart goes out to all of those affected.

thank fucking god people are still talking about this. Maren was killed on Friday and after that first day, posts about her vanished. she was sixteen. she was sixteen and was supposed to spend that day getting ready for junior prom, but instead was dead by the time the first bell rang.

This is very interesting for a number of reasons. I am astonished by the continued and exponential development of technology. In this case, how a virtual child has been created in order to track and identify child sex offenders. However, it is also fascinating that the producers of this video are not themselves (seemingly) astonished at the statistics of child sex abuse. What do these statistics reveal? Why is there a demand for this kind of trade? Where and what compels people to commit this kind of act? These are not isolated incidents - it is clearly a pandemic. In every corner of the earth, in ever community, people mismanage the sexuality of children. What are people’s thoughts on this? Can it even been spoken about in such meta terms?
