I know that Supreme Court rulings arenât everyoneâs cup of tea - but this morning they made two decisions that really hurt women.
First, the court ruled in the Hobby Lobby case that âclosely-heldâ corporations, such as Hobby Lobby, can refuse to provide insurance coverage for birth control...
Meet the companies battling Obamacareâs contraceptive mandate.
Current law prohibits abortions after 24 weeks of pregnancy unless the motherâs life is at risk. The new law (house Bill 1047)will require woman to have a doctor determine whether a fetus is viable before having an abortion and bans an abortion unless the doctor can certify in writing that an abortion is necessary to save the motherâs life or physical health.

Floridaâs governor has signed a bill that seriously endangers pregnant people across the state into law.Â

Feedback please. Is anybody paying attention to what's happening in Florida? "House Bill 1047 bans abortions once a fetus is considered viable, which is typically at 23 weeks of gestation. The new law, which passed with a partisan vote in the Legislature, replaces Florida's existing ban on abortions starting in the third trimester, which is about two weeks after the new standard... Among other restrictions, HB 1047 requires that: Two physicians certify in writing that, to a reasonable degree of medical probability, the termination of the pregnancy is necessary to save the pregnant womanâs life or avert a serious risk of substantial and irreversible physical impairment of a major bodily function of the pregnant woman other than a psychological condition."

Activist murdered by abusive boyfriend

The decision to grant admitting privileges to doctors is generally a function of the business arm of the hospital, and part of what those decision-makers take into consideration is how many patients - and how much money - a doctor will bring in. So abortion providers - who almost never transfer patients to hospitals - may not be able to get privileges precisely because abortions are so safe.

This powerful image is from one of the memorials last night for 16-year-old Maren Sanchez.
Maren was stabbed to death in her high school stairwell on the morning of the prom. She was killed for allegedly turning down a young manâs invitation to be her prom date.
Her classmates paid tribute by dressing up, and bringing out the gown she would have worn to the prom. Even though this memorial was a sorrowful and traumatic event, the students smiled through their tears for the camera because⌠Maren would have wanted them to be happy on their prom night.
I grew up in Milford, CT, and I live about 15 minutes away from Jonathan Law High School. My partner attended JLHS and I have friends with family members who currently attend.
With the Sandy Hook shooting in December 2012, I canât believe that here we are again, just a year later, with another tragedy in a Connecticut school.
My heart goes out to all of those affected.

ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME? YOUNG GIRLS GETTING FUCKING KILLED BECAUSE MENÂ A MAN CANâT HANDLE REJECTION.Â
FUCK THIS WORLD.
That lone dress on a rack where she would be standing. My God.
thank fucking god people are still talking about this. Maren was killed on Friday and after that first day, posts about her vanished. she was sixteen. she was sixteen and was supposed to spend that day getting ready for junior prom, but instead was dead by the time the first bell rang.
donât forget maren sanchez. donât let her become another name you vaguely remember in twenty years. do not fucking forget maren.
Menâs rights activists donât organize marches; they donât build shelters or raise funds for abused men; they donât organize prostate cancer-awareness events or campaign against prison rape. What they actually do, when theyâre not simply carping in comments online, is target and harass womenâfrom feminist writers and professors to activistsâin an attempt to silence them.

âWomen who are fat are said to have âlet themselves go.â The very phrase connotes a loosening of restraints. Women in our society are bound. In generations past, the constriction was accomplished by corsets and girdlesâŚ. Women today are bound by fears, by oppression, and by stereotypes that depict large women as ungainly, unfeminine, and unworthy of appreciationâŚ. Above all, women must control themselves, must be careful, for to relax might lead to the worst possible consequence: being fat.â

This horrible guy weighed down his daughterâs car seat, putting it in a creek and leaving her to die. This was because the babyâs mother dared toâŚbreak their engagement. Ugh.
Haunting new Tumblr shows what happens When Women Refuse
When Women Refuse serves as a sobering reminder that when men feel entitled to womenâs bodies, it is not only demeaning, but dangerous. These men see women primarily as sex objects, as prizes to be won and owned, and therefore also believe that women who do not acquiesce to that worldview deserve to be punished.Â

TW: sex abuse, pedophiliaÂ
This is very interesting for a number of reasons. I am astonished by the continued and exponential development of technology. In this case, how a virtual child has been created in order to track and identify child sex offenders. However, it is also fascinating that the producers of this video are not themselves (seemingly) astonished at the statistics of child sex abuse. What do these statistics reveal? Why is there a demand for this kind of trade? Where and what compels people to commit this kind of act? These are not isolated incidents - it is clearly a pandemic. In every corner of the earth, in ever community, people mismanage the sexuality of children. What are peopleâs thoughts on this? Can it even been spoken about in such meta terms?Â
