This was such a momentous episode for Dani. I have so much to say. Instead of doing one huge thread I might break down tiny scenes like this.

First, I want to talk about the importance of Dani grabbing Gigi’s hand.

Dani has never had the opportunity to examine her emotions as they happen. She pushes them down and hopes that eventually they would just go away. That has been the common trend through out the entire season for Dani. Her learning how to one, allow herself to be vulnerable, and two learning how to trust again. Dani had unresolved trust issues when she was with Sophie which prevented her from opening up fully with her. I think the only person she’s fully trusted in her life was her dad. When the realization sets in that he lied to her, it rocks her. She reaches over and grabs her partner’s hand allowing her to put all of her trust in Gigi now.

Compare this to the scene in episode 6 when Dani runs out of Dana’s when Sophie is singing to Finley. She runs out of the bar expecting to deal with this alone as usual. But Gigi is close behind her. Reassuring Dani that she doesn’t have to do this alone. Dani seemed almost annoyed that Gigi was behind her. She admits that she isn’t fine but only after Gigi followed her out. Up until this point Gigi has been reactive to Dani’s outburst. Dani never came to Gigi with an issue. It’s only after Gigi correctly guesses that something is wrong when Dani opens up and admits that there’s a problem.

Dani grabbing Gigi’s hand in the courtroom signifies that she fully trusts Gigi now. Instead of Dani running away leaving Gigi to chase her, she went directly to Gigi allowing her to help her proactively instead of reactively. Gigi didn’t believe Dani would come to her if something was wrong because Dani is stubborn and stuck in her ways. The pattern has always been Gigi chasing Dani to make sure she was okay. This is a step forward in their relationship and it’s beautiful to witness. Dani has someone she fully trusts.
