I made this blog to talk about my experiences with being otherfix and fictionflicker. This basically means I develop temporary fictotypes as a result of hyperfixations.

However, I have since discovered that Lucifer from Hazbin Hotel is a permanent kintype, not a flicker! Along with being fictionkin, I am also angelkin.

Made this sideblog because I am NOT ready to come out on main lol. Past flickers include Mangle (fnaf), Jack Sparrow (potc), Lute (Hazbin), Sherlock (BBC Sherlock), and a few others that I'm less sure about.

there is this character i really relate to and love, have loved for months, but idk if its a fictionkin way or a hyperfixation or just me likking him ;w;

Hello! Oh I feel that, it took me months- maybe even a year or two idk- to figure out I’m fictionflicker and come to terms with it.

So, the biggest tell for me was self-perception. When you look at pictures of the character, does it feel like you’re looking at pictures of yourself? When you think about the character, are you thinking in first person or third? Assuming you don’t have aphantasia, when you create an image of yourself in your mind’s eye, are there any aspects of the character?

Another helpful one is how you mentally interact with people or places in the character’s source. For example, I miss Eden. Hell is home to me, whether I like it or not. I feel personally irritated by Vox. I see Charlie as my daughter and I’m really uncomfortable with anything that sexualizes her (suggestive fanart, explicit fics.. hell, I had to look away during the Easy scene, it’s a great song but I still have only the vaguest idea what happens during it and I don’t care to find out)

Of course, if you have any shifts, that can be helpful too. One of the first signs I noticed of my Lucifer kintype was waking up with six phantom wings. I know this is more difficult with character who lack any nonhuman features lol, but mental shifts and behavioral changes can be just as useful! I believe the only fully human flickers I’ve had are Sherlock and Jack Sparrow, and both of those changed my speaking/thinking patterns quite a bit. With Jack in particular I noticed my mannerisms were a lot more relaxed and.. sassy, ig? I kept catching myself doing a little bit of The Walk™️ (if you’ve seen PotC you know what I mean lol)

As for distinguishing between a flicker and a permanent kintype, unfortunately I don’t think there’s any way to be 100% certain right off the bat. You just gotta wait and see lol. I thought my first flicker, Mangle, was a kintype but they faded after a couple months, and I initially thought Lucifer was a flicker only to realize that’s a kintype! Whatever label you wanna use, there’s nothing wrong with reassessing later on. It doesn’t mean that you were faking, or even necessarily wrong, just means you’re learning more about yourself!

And finally, even if the flicker/kin labels aren’t quite right for you, and you just wanna BE that character, otherlinking is valid af! Some people are gonna tell you that you need a “correct” reason to ‘link, like something specific you’re using it to cope with or process, but my stance is that ‘linking can be very personal and complex so gatekeeping it is stupid :)
