Make It Count

Out of all the people in this weird town, this was the first time that someone reminded him of someone back home. Although Scott had tried not to stare, he couldn’t help it. The way the guy was working on his project reminded him of his uncle Watch, and he couldn’t help but be fascinated on what it was. Plus it didn’t help that the guy was hot. “Sorry.” He muttered, although he didn’t mean it. “I was wondering what you were working on.”

“It’s um--” he paused to look at his project. “I’m just trying to make a little gps system to try and figure out where we are. I don’t really know when we are, but judging from the technology, I’d assume the 2010′s.” It wasn’t the most innovative idea, but it was something he definitely needed to figure out how to get home.

“Uh, absolutely!”  Alex grinned, motioning toward the volleyball net with her head.  She had been looking for another player anyway, and who better than her cousin?  “C’mon, you can be on my team.”

“Have you met the people around here yet?” Ziggy asked carefully. He wasn’t exactly the best at making new connections. He was very much just happy in his comfort zone. So being in a town where he knew virtually no one and absolutely nothing about, definitely caused him anxiety. “Are they nice?”

“Perfect!  I can show you the schematics later.”  Alex returned her cousin’s wide smile, tucking a strand of purple hair behind her ear.  “I mean, yeah, it’s just a little stress relief.  I’ve been working on this portal non-stop.”

“Well, do you have room for one more player?” He asked, smiling at Alex. If a break was what his cousin needed, he would be more than happy to help her relieve a little stress and have more than just a little fun.

“Oh, I’m already on it!”  Alex grinned, pulling back from the hug to get a good look at her cousin.  “I’ve got all the schematics worked out for a portal to get us back to Danville, I just need to find all the materials.  Something tells me that’s gonna be the hardest part.”

Ziggy absolutely beamed at the news. He’d felt hopeless of finding a way back home only minutes earlier. “I’ll definitely help you with finding them.” He tossed the ball from one hand to the other. “But you’re playing-- volleyball in the mean time?” He asked his cousin. Man, she must have been really stuck if she’d put a project on hold.

Alex hadn’t gotten a very good look at who the ball flew toward, she was more focused on retrieving it, but when she heard the familiar voice, her head snapped up.  “Ziggy!”  She grinned, wrapping her cousin in a hug.  “Ugh, thank God!  I was starting to think I was alone here!”

He let go of the ball as his cousin pulled him into a hug, and he was more than happy to return it. He wrapped his arms around her a little tighter, like he was making sure she was real. It felt like what worries he had went away because there was nothing impossible when he had Alex. “I’m so glad you’re here. We can figure out how to get home together!”
