my whole idea stems from TPATD route where you leave together. there’s an interaction closer to the end where the Princess takes TLQ’s hand before leaving the cabin. this is probably his most out of character moment in the whole game. he asks The Narrator if it feels nice. he then, of course, explains himself by saying that you can learn a lot of things from someone’s handshake, shrugging the sentiment off, but it doesn’t feel as genuine.

I know it’s not much, but it’s one of the only glimpses into Opportunist’s true nature we get. he appears along with the Witch, the vessel who looks for a chance to betray TLQ for her own good, just like he did to get Opportunist. they’re mirrors of each other, in a way. and the interesting thing here is that the dormant Shifting Mound says that the Thorn (the continuation of the Witch after giving her a chance) “yearns for a connection she feels like she doesn’t deserve.”

I dunno. it’s something to think about.

only to realize that he’s been acting for so long that he doesn’t really know who he is beneath all the masks, and he’s almost starting from scratch.

he decides that, if he needs to make a whole new identity from the ground up, then he might as well base it on what the others would like, right? no need to worry about the others disliking who he ‘really is’ if he makes sure to craft his new personality around what they want to see, right?
