will and his boyfriend tony for valentine's day <3
like there are several straight sex scenes in st but the sapphic couple kissing and joking about sex is where they draw the line? interesting.
if a gay couple has sex that’s homophobia if a gay couple doesnt have sex that could be homophobia too it all depends on how gay mike is
I hate it when people willfully misinterpret something in the worst way and present it as a faux pas of the writers.
If you interpret something completely innocent as something insidious, that is a reflection of YOU, not the writers.

forever funny how people who yelled about “media literacy” only focus on whether Will ended up with Mike. His whole story was about surviving, integrating what happened to him and choosing to live his life to the fullest — yet an ending where he’s alive, free, safe in the queer community aaaaand has a boyfriend who isn’t Mike gets treated like a death sentence 🤷🏻♀️ okaaaay
90s will byers 🌟
i was so proud
I will stop I promise, but the description that Will would have been dating "guys who have been with other guys before" and that'd be an increased risk is so revealing because I mean, what would the alternative be? The implication is that Will's only possible happy ending would be dating Mike because Mike, having lived as a straight man, is therefore "pure" and "less risky" than all those other gross gay men Will would be meeting in NYC. It is putting the straight guy in a pedestal and idolizing Will's repressed childhood while framing his adulthood as a happy, out gay man as inherently tainted. The fantasy of a gay romance completely removed from gay culture and experiences is framed as the superior form of "representation." When people say bylr shippers can be homophobic, this is what they're talking about.

You can hate the epilogue all you want, but you should realize that when you post those complaints about how “they put him in a gay bar!!!!” you are implying that one of the few safe queer spaces at the time is dirty and immoral. That makes you, unintentionally, side with homophobes and spread harmful stereotypes. Please THINK about it
Proving our point that most of you wouldn’t say all that about the epilogue setting for Will if he were there with Mike. Exhibit 3847373 ⬇️

So it’s cool if Mike and Will hang out together at a gay bar, but if Will is with another guy, suddenly it’s out of character? You can’t be serious 🤷🏻♀️
you can make the argument that i’m nitpicking but i think that when you have any sort of audience — or at the very least one who consistently interacts with you — what you say and how you say it matters.
like, sorry. it IS that deep. this conversation is regularly spreading misunderstanding and misinformation about a time in queer history that most of the people bitching about it weren’t alive to experience. complaining about how will even stepping into a gay bar is reinforcing harmful stereotypes re: gay bar culture and then say the gay bar scene was rife with disease in the same breath is perpetuating the harmful generalizations you claim to care so much about. i understand being mad about the ways in which byler fell through, i understand will’s epilogue maybe not being your favorite thing or what you imagined for him, but i think it’s genuinely irresponsible to get on here and play into hundreds (if not thousands) of people’s clearly still raw emotions about those things and contribute to a narrative that has been detrimental to gay people for decades.
it’s been six months. it’s pride. let’s not do this anymore ♥️
can anyone tell me when its gonna stop feeling like this?
did the leg slow you down 🫵🤣

if people could stop associating gay bars with AIDS purely to justify their belief that no byler endgame was an act of homophobia that would be great thank you. you are being more homophobic than you think the show is.
Will is likely surprised because years of bullying taught him strict gender rules, so he never expected girls to cross into “traditionally boy” interests. Since he was punished by Lonnie and bullies for breaking “norms” himself, it probably shocks him to see that gender roles are not as fixed as he was made to believe.
This can be seen as an addition to his journey of understanding that there is no single way to “be a boy” or “act like a girl”, and he can create his own version of himself without fear of “being wrong” for his gender ❤️🩹
