NWSL doesn't do drafts or trades

Nor do international soccer pro leagues. Actually drafts in general aren't really a thing outside of North American pro sports.

the pro women's hockey leagues in Europe do not draft. The pro women's hockey leagues in North America that existed before this did away with their draft.

But also: The low end of the pay may not be "evil," but if they wanna keep yapping big about how this very pro league means their players can play hockey as a real grown up job, they need to raise it.

Before the assumption happens: I'm not new to sports.

I'm just y'know, pro worker's rights and can see how it's kind of fucked up for any worker to have an employer able to upend your whole life for $18 an hour. And that it's silly to say with a straight face "these people being paid less than $100k should expect to be treated exactly the same as the people doing the same job for 10 million." And I can see how we'll continue to lose great players to retirement when they do finally quit, because they're done living like college kids as they hit 30. Which is a bummer. I'd like that to not be true.

The current salary cap per team seems to be sitting around $1.4 million. Mark Walter is worth between 11 and 13 billion dollars. He could double each team's salaries and still not even feel that.

Do I think that the PWHL might open its doors to trans men/mascs? yes, the rugby league did this too.

Do I think that the PWHL will close it's doors to trans women entirely? unfortunately yes, or atleast for the time being until something is done about the executive order.

I wish we could all just play hockey in peace man, hockey is for all.

Also with these nation-wide sports organizations shutting their doors to trans people, it's honestly absurd. Trans men who were previously allowed to play in the mens team must now either play with the women or with a coed group. Infact, if they've been on testosterone, they can only play with a coed group. This is an issue because this barrs trans folks from advancing in hockey, as coed groups are uncommon as the skill group progresses.

And also, it means that women are no longer allowed to play in mens teams at all, even if their college/school/local league/where-ever they play only has a mens team. This could barr so many girls from playing hockey/other sports and pursuing it as a passion, which isn't great...

the pwhl is not a progressive league that's going to defy usahockey even if they aren't actually under the jurisdiction of usahockey. they are most concerned with whatever is safest to grow the business. i would rather the league continue dragging their feet on a gender policy than release one because i know that when they release one it will be identical to the usahockey policy
