This has always bothered me but I kinda am reaching my breaking point with it, It genuinely feels impossible to publicly enjoy any interest, recently I posted a video on my instagram of me and my friends jokingly having a funeral for Suchomimus after the paper on them and other spinosriods came out. It is so clearly a joke and I have been called a larper laughed at and had things mansplained to me despite the fact that I have been a fan of dinosaurs my whole life! For as long as I can remember.

This isn’t even the first time I was nearly bullied out of the CoD fandom and got called a poser and a larper all because I bought keychains and plushies themed around the game or that I don’t know every tiny scrap of lore immediately when joining the fandom. People can enjoy things however they want why do I need to be super serious all the time to enjoy paleontology?

Again I am aware it is just a name change and it’s just one paper but like some media literacy would tell you it’s a fucking joke! It’s just so frustrating that doing anything to enjoy a fandom gets you laughed at or called a larper. Like do these people realize they are killing their own fandoms by doing this because if you insult all the new people in a fandom space they aren’t going to stay.
