Another character I created for “The Home of All Unusual Creatures” passion project.

I just thought it would be interesting to explore some other possible residents. Specifically instead of acceptance or compliance, what if one exhibited anger from not remembering one’s purpose? What if one would be so angry they would force that contempt onto others? Perhaps spiriting them away to the unknown?

The idea of the Home is that it acts as a shelter of sort to give a safe place to stay to all creatures who’ve forgotten their purpose/meaning in life. It’s important since the outside world is dangerous to those who don’t have meaning/purpose. It’s basically like the backrooms, where they basically have lost control of their lives and could be teleported randomly (often violently) to all of these places. In the past, they ended up at the Home if they were lucky. Now, thanks to algorithmic changes, such creatures are more inclined to end up at a home, safe and sound.

So if The Eraser is such a destructive force, why has he not been banned? Removed from the Home? Home policy. They can’t quite reject anyone. Plus, The Eraser is quite hard to track down. The Home might appear small, but is bigger than you’d actually think.

Not too sure what his lore is yet, but I’ve decided that he will be a patron in my story. He’s very joyous but likes to fall asleep during performance. Has a 2D form.

He’s another artfight oc, second to last one to be brought into the 3d world!

His design was actually first made a couple of years ago for another project, but was never used because the design did not make sense in the context. It was a shame since I really liked this design, so I’m really happy I get to use it in this project! It really fits in with the weirdcore vibe!

His full name is Shard Barton and he is an oc from artfight.

He’s is a part of my ongoing project “The Home of All Unusual Creatures” in which he plays a role as a patron (patrons keep the Home running through their donations in exchange for a performance from residents).

Fun facts:

- Shard is arrogant but also kind of mysterious.

- Good friends with Pickles Twain (another patron).

These shelters are crucial since creatures who have forgotten their purpose can experience real danger in the outside world. In a way, they have lost a sense of direction in their life, leading them to wander (possibly permanently) and hypothetically encounter "clip outs" which is basically them getting teleported randomly to different places hence the risk of encountering something dangerous. This condition could be a spectrum too, with some being affected more severely. For example, a creature could be instantly teleported to a cave with a man eating dog inside (think backrooms kinda) but only if they touch a shark plushie while another creature could only be teleported to the same field of flowers whenever they see a car. How do they usually make it back if they even do? I'm still working that out :)

A purpose could be something as serious as a life goal or as simple as forgetting you were out to buy groceries. It's possible to remember ones purpose without a home, in fact many remember right away. However, anxiety/stress does hinder the remembering, hence why the homes help, speeding the process up by being a "chaos" proof environment that gives stability to its residents. In this world, homes engineer something akin to an algorithm/program that drastically increase the chances of a potential resident to end up at the home (don't look too deep into this, it's not meant to make much sense).

In The Home of All Unusual Creatures, due to financial obstacles, residents may be required to perform occasionally for patrons, those who donate to the Home. It's mandated that anyone who pays to be labeled as a patron, meaning that if you pay like a nickel or a dime you would be considered as one.

*the performances could be anything, ranging from dances, songs, just making conversation to the audience on a stage or someone trying to untangle a ball of yarn. Evidently, they are often kinda crappy and a bit boring if I'm being completely honest. Patrons, the donors, either see it as a genuine cause, use it as volunteer hours or are already generational donors among other reasons.

Inspired by "Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children," "The Thief of Always," “Paprika” and weirdcore simulators, the story follows Peko, a young stellar dino, ending up at a home. Compared to this project's inspirations, I aim to take a more slice of life approach rather than dramatic horror or action (still want to maintain the "disturbing comfort" of dreamcore/weirdcore though, and also there is a somewhat antagonistic character The Eraser but won't be focused on too much). We follow Peko as he explores the home's nooks and crannies as well as the other characters until he inevitably leaves.

The home will be structured in a very interesting way reminiscent of the mentioned aesthetics. Expect a lot of weird liminal spaces.

Lore:

Danabelle Whimsy has been in and out of The Home of All Unusual Creatures at least 15 times. It seems that everytime she remembers her meaning, who she is, she is bound to eventually forget it. This causes not only drains her overtime, but also causes her to lose the ability to fly, leading to a quiet, distant personality. Danabelle ballet dances in her free time, often in front of Home patrons (basically the people who donate/fund the home), viewing the dancing as a source of comfort and stability. It’s a shame that dancing is not part of her lost meaning.

Fun facts:

- her favorite food are egg tarts

- her favorite place in the HOME is the floral room (will be modeled later)

- Danabelle might not admit it, but she would never miss out on a chance to pull an innocent prank

Reflections:

This model wasn’t very difficult to model but took a bit long to rig. I found rigging the dress and having the legs influence it especially challenging. Still feel like model can make a few edits though!

I’m happy to say after 4 years I feel like I’m finally getting a hang of the Blender3D program! :D
