I post fish facts every Friday! Just wanted to say you can send me asks if you would like to see a particular fish! I will get to them ASAP :).

Ling Cod (scientific name Ophiodon elongatus) are not true cods, and can also weigh up to 80 pounds!

Shortnose Greeneye (scientific name Chlorophthalmus agassizi) eyes fluoresce bright green in dim blue light!

Bowfin fish (scientific name Amia calva) can breathe both water and air making them greatly adapted for low oxygen environments!

Giant sea bass (scientific name stereolepis gigas) can weigh up to 600 pounds!

Spotted garden eels (scientific name Heteroconger hassi) secrete a mucous that they then use to coat and cement together the sands of their burrows!

Sockeye Salmon (scientific name oncorhynchus nerka) can use their sense of smell to find their home streams, as well as sense predators and chemicals in the water!

Bluestriped Fangblenny (scientific name plagiotremus rhinorhynchos) are a mimic species of the striped cleaner wrasse, which is harmless. This allows them to easily get close to their prey to bite it.
