Acanthurus chirurgus
Surgeonfish displaying its spinous scales By: Don Ollis From: Life Nature Library: The Fishes 1963
surgeonfish are so funny. i can't help but notice you have two giant poisonous knives that you use to kill people... you're just like this type of human that uses small sterile knives to heal people
evolution: "you know what this tropical fish needs? KNIVES on its BUTT. BUTT KNIVES"

Mixed school of surgeonfish and parrotfish, Exmouth WA
These massive schools, borderline swarms, would pass us by at the reef fairly often. They'd graze along everything in their path, often disturbing the smaller residents hiding amongst the coral.
Crayon fishes 🐠
Powder blue tangs are my favourite :3
It is once again time for me to post the backlog of art I've spent an entire year sitting on instead of sharing. This first piece from 2024 was a little wedding gift for my brother and his wife. He's a doctor and she's studying to become a nurse, so I represented them as a doctorfish (Acanthurus chirurgus) and a nursehound shark (Scyliorhinus stellaris), respectively. Watercolor on hot press paper, 6 x 6 inches.
