β chronicles of magic
recovery mission board / reason +1
βIsnβt it ever?β Merric nods with a smile. To the excited children, he waves - a greeting, but also a message of if you want to see more, maybe a little later. In theory, at least, he came here mostly to watch the magic demonstrations of others - the students of the Fhirdiad School of Sorcery. Although he supposes he pretty much expected to end up showing something of his own as well; if not to CΓ©line, then to someone else who knows his status as a Professor at the Officers Academy.
In any case, the young ladyβs question brings his attention back to her. βOh, the glass trick, you mean? Well, it does take a bit more setup - you need sand, limestone and some other minerals, and then by applying high temperature via the Fire spell, you can melt them and create glass. The student I remember - he would sometimes open a little booth where he had all materials prepared, and there, he would hold demonstrations, as well as create glass items, baubles and whatnot upon request.β He smiles at the memory of watching him at work on a few occasions. βAs his studies progressed, he became more and more skilled, and he could create more and more complicated and beautiful things.β
In that moment, his smile grows a hint sad as he looks off to the distance and falls silent for a moment, before finishing the story in a way truthful, but unwanted.
βHe could have become a great artisanβ¦ had the war not claimed him.β He shakes his head, turning to CΓ©line again. βItβs especially stories like his that remind me how pointless and harmful wars are, and how important it is to cherish peace.β
A small pause again, before he chuckles, somewhat self-mockingly, before continuing. βSorry for killing the mood a little, perhaps. In any case, I believe I remember how he did glass forging, so I could show you back at the Academy - it requires some resources we donβt have here.β His smile grows warmer. βI think he would be very happy to have someone show interest in and continue his craft.β
Flames of past fury burn within the mind just as strongly as the sounds of swords and tomes turning. The professor wears a smile despite the sorrowful mentionsβ With each word, she listens carefully. For a moment, CΓ©line nearly forgoes the imagery around her to focus on what's in front. A skill of the professor's nature takes great care and practice.
"I am sorry to hear of that hardship," she says softly. Her now interlaced fingers fall to her sides and skirt the ends of her hair. "There is never any telling what the future might hold. But.. I'm glad you told me this. And I am just as happy to share the interest. While I am unable to see his demonstrations, I enjoy seeing yours." CΓ©line's eyes flicker towards the blue hues in the sky, sauntering towards a stray cloud. Brief, snapping away at her words: "βMay I say something, Professor? It was a thought I had just now, hearing you speak."
Her straight-lined lips form to match those around her, even if only slight. "I worry of similar things, myself. That.. In the wake of uncertainties, only a mantle remains. But I am not going to turn away from anything. Even so, you speak this story to me fondly. I wish I could have met your student. To pass that tale along is a wonderful thing. I should like to do the same, one day." She is content waiting for the proper opportunityβ It gives her another lesson she can add to her growing journey. CΓ©line offers a nod in agreement
"I'm happy to wait for a proper demonstration at Garreg Mach. In truth, I am a little hesitant to use the Fire spell here," she says with a forced giggle. "But never mind that. The students here.. What do you make of them?"
β where flowers bloom
Anniversary 2024 // Axe +1
It wasn't quite Firene. Yunaka hadn't been away long enough to forget that. Whether it was the constant smell of flowers on the wind, or the fields that surrounded them on every side, Yunaka couldn't help but feel a little bit nostalgic. Even if she hadn't gotten to spend much time in Firene with them, she remembers thinking that it was a beautiful place.
While the group discusses their job here, Yunaka hears the sound of fading footsteps under the voices. From the corner of her eye, she can see a familiar head of blond walking away. Yunaka closes her eyes, sighs, and then slips after her when the group isn't looking.
It doesn't take long to catch up, and she's all smiles again when she does. "No prob', Bob. Thooough I can't say I ever imagined sneaking out on your own to be a royal habit." Just as reckless as her older brother...
"Hmm? Oh, yeah, it's real pretty!" It sort of reminds her of the big, autumnal trees back in Brodian, fighting to survive among the cliffs and mountains. She remembers once, when she was really young, one of the trees raining a storm of leaves early in the year, and all the children in her little town running and spinning beneath it, trying to catch as many as they could.
...Yunaka plucks a petal from the sky.
"I don't know much at all about flowers, but Etie took me to a big field of them once, and told me all she could before we had to leave." Yunaka laughs softly. "It was kinda cute."
She can't help and smile at Yunaka's words, flushing a hand over her mouth to stifle the giggle: "It is improper to run around on my own, just like this." Oh, how she had done similar as a child years ago. For as much as she prepared herself for the what-if's, even habits of young still wore themselves close to her heart.
Still, CΓ©line is happy to hear of the knowledge she might have hadβ Big or small, what mattered is what they are looking at now. "How wonderful. Then, I am certain Etie said much of what you need to know. There are times she has even taught me things I knew not of..!" A smile sits on CΓ©line's face, fingers intertwining around the petal she holds.
"I understand well of our reason for being here. No matter how much their blossoms draw attention..," she begins to muse. A breath leaves her lips. "Might I ask you something, Yunaka? Do you think there will be anything to replace them? The trees, I mean." She did not expect a thorough answer, for even she would never know unless she opted to return one day.
"I do not doubt I am the only one who wonders this. Even if so, it simply wouldn't be the same." But that is a selfish thought. Were she in Firene, she wondersβ Would she act any differently?
"Princess CΓ©line! I'm so glad to see you're well."
ChloΓ© admits that she had been more than a little concerned when CΓ©line first departed for the academy, but she had to remember that it was a church, and a schoolβtheoretically, there would be no place safer.
And yet, ChloΓ© eventually found herself following after, anyway. Part of it was for herself, but keeping an eye on her liege had been another major reason. Capable as Firene's princess was, ChloΓ© wasn't comfortable leaving her friend alone.
"Soooo..." She leans a bit closer, cooing curiously, "What have you been up to during this new school life? Any interesting encounters? Fun stories? New FΓ³dlan tea blends you've tried?"
"ChloΓ©! I am pleased to have you by my side. I hope your journey here was smooth."
She has often thought of her retainers ever since she leftβ How there are even the tiniest of things embedded in the monastery's walls that remind her of them. ChloΓ© is both her dear friend and retainer, etching a petite inch of childlike twinkle into the princess's eyes.
"I have certainly been doing my utmost to use my time here wisely." She does not take her time here for granted nor would ever think of anything else. "I have sampled many of FΓ³dlan's teas. Seiros tea, Crescent-Moon.. A lovely honeyed taste, as well. Would you care to join me sometime? The monastery has the perfect spot for such things." A hand moves towards CΓ©line's face, fingers resting atop her chin. She chuckles away the list of teas she begins to formulate accompanied by a shake of the head.
"As for events.. the Ethereal Ball holds itself highly, of course. I often thought of how it reminded me of Firene.. The masquerade elements, the dances.. I've no doubt you would enjoy it as much as I."
rockabye baby
mission board: anniversary / faith prompt. ( for @firelles )
They never covered this in etiquette lessons.
Etie peers curiously at the doll she and the princess were tasked to care for over the next few days, a finely trimmed brow quirked as she pokes at the 'baby's' cheek. It sits motionless, making no noise. Though she heard that wouldn't be the case for long...
For as much as Firene hammered into its women that their role was to be the domestic pillars of their households, instructions on parenthood usually consisted of sewing and cooking lessonsβthings to make a household into a home for the husband and child, rather than the actual rearing of the children.
Much like her older sister, Etie knew her parents expected her to marry and have kids one day (and were probably angling for that partner to be Prince Alfred...), but something like this? She was wholly unprepared for.
Princess CΓ©line, though...
"Between your smarts and my enthusiasm, this child is in great hands." She rises, smiling at her best friend. "It won't want for a thingβ"
A piercing wail suddenly explodes from the doll, causing Etie to jump and wince. Dragons. Were babies always this loud? The poor thing sounded like it was dying!
"...After we calm himβer, her?βdown, of course."
When she first made the journey to Garreg Mach, she never quite anticipated they would provide their attendees with an exercise like this. CΓ©line did not mind, even if soβ Every step she took within these academy's walls was a way to enrich both herself and Firene. Its pride in peace and abundance of self-sufficiency drove her far.
But she is its princessβ One of its heralding faces for the future, even if not rising to be Queen. There was always much she must consider.
To do this task alongside her best friend was enough to draw her attention equally between the now-yelling doll and Etie herself. She held no doubt that they would prove fruitful in this endeavor, but first things first:
The doll's quickened cries brought green eyes to a widened stance, hovering a hand over her mouth in surprise. "My, so soon.. Then again, this is something that can't be timed." Her words were quieter than intended as she took a step closer and leaned forward. Raising her voice to match the baby's would not be a wise course of action. Could it even hear? She supposed they would find out.
Moving her fingers away from her person, CΓ©line tucked both palms under the doll and clutched it closer towards her chest. "Are these dolls able to eat and drink? I wonder if we should try that, first."

the wolf among us
mission task: anniversary (riding+1)
When Yuzu steps into the exterior of the stables, she is not met with horses but insteadβ¦wolves? Or what she assumes to be wolves, as the small group of animals are no more than pups at the moment.
Itβs a foreign sight for the traveling samurai. What purpose would the monastery have in adopting a litter of bigger dogs? The premises were not shy of the occasional cat or pet wandering about. Wolves, however? Those are a different breed entirelyβ¦
β¦though at the same time, one of the pups notices Yuzu standing back. It stares at her with large eyes, and with a fluffy covering of light grey fur. So cuteβ¦ How could she not resist the temptation to approach at once?!
Yuzu trudges forward with one hand outstretched, practically in a daze. Before she can make contact with the fluffy being, though, the corner of her gaze notices another woman surrounded by even more balls of fur. It takes the Hoshidan a moment to recognize her, but her light blonde, flowing hair makes her appearance quick to remember.
βLady CΓ©line?β Yuzu asks with a hint of excitement in her voice. She could never forget a trustworthy classmate, let alone one who excelled in their arena bouts. βIt is an honor to see you today. Umβ¦have you taken to raising these cubs?β
@firelles
It is their eager eyes that catch her attentionβ The quickness to their feet and the way CΓ©line gracefully bends to offer them her utmost. She hums no ballad nor declares affirming words, but it is her actions that she allows to speak for themselves. While she is not as familiar with them as those from Solm might be, she has taken an intrigue to them all the same.
The familiar voice of Yuzu is what catches her attention, straightening her back at the call of her name accompanied by a wave of her right hand: "What a pleasurable way to cross paths once more," she says kindly in greeting to Yuzu. "But yes, I have..! These sort of wolves frequent certain parts of Elyos. When I heard they were in need of assistance, well.. I felt as if I must do something."
CΓ©line's left hand touches the head of a small wolf with its paws on her leg, she pats it gently to usher it off her person. "They seem to feel fondly towards you, as well!" A giggle slips past her lips as she gestures towards the tiny creature nearest her classmate.
Her little taps to their heads and rubs on the back keep three of the wolves circling Firene's princess with a jump to their stride. "It appears I am stuck in this one spot, though.. Might you be able to draw their attention elsewhere? I was hoping to fetch some water."
β Β· . β Small joys
"I'm sure she will." He spoke doubtless and followed CΓ©line's motion and for once in their whole trip he let go of his horse, who stood in position without orders given to him. "If you'd like to send one with your letter we could try drying it. It's not the same as seeing it in full bloom but with the distance from FΓ³dlan to Firene it might be our best bet." Gentle digits pluckled a flower of the same kind from its spot and brought it closer. Nostrils opened slightly as they took in the scent. "And honestly? As long as you tell her of the story that goes with it, i'm sure she won't mind if the flower is dried or not."
Knees grazing the soil turned in a slight movement back into buttocks making nature his seat. Flying horses or not, he wouldn't doubt that this had been a magical experience that the tale they searched could not match. Sometimes chasing fairy-tales reminded one of how beautiful reality was with all it could give by simply looking around.
"It's a shame i didn't bring my flute, it would've made the experience just a little more magical." Alfred chuckled as she closed his eyes. After a moment of silence he began to hum a tune he heard since he was a child, nostalgic music at a beautiful place that made him think of a miniature Fireneβa return to home without stepping out of FΓ³dlan. How lucky had they gotten with this?
Happiness was an emotion that took great part of his life, he always searched for it wherever he could find it and he found it in simple moments such as this one or whenever one of his loved ones showed a smile unmatched in beauty. The nostalgic tune shifted to a simple Firenese song, he could play it with his flute but without the instrument at hand, the decision of playing it with his own voice was the least he could do.
Eyes opened and he spoke; "Why don't we relax here for a bit longer? No worries about the future, just enjoying the present." The suggestion seemed to be agreeable to his horse, who looked quite happy. Gently he patted his lap and followed it with lively laughter. "If you want to take a nap i'm here to support your head too, i can even hum you a lullaby. What do you think about that?"
CΓ©line joined not in song or lull, instead trickling a finger towards another un-plucked flower as she observed the one in Alfred's hands. "It appears my letter is going to be much longer than I anticipated," she mused kindly. While mostly to herself, she was hardly intending to keep it a secret. A light breath escaped her lips as she began to think about the words that would follow from a long night with quill pen in hand. Perhaps it best she finish sooner than later; rather, it was a must.
Still, the thoughts in her mind were accompanied by familiar sound. Flute or not, CΓ©line found herself unbothered by its absence. Instead, she was attentive to the music of memorable hums. Her head shook at the proposition to follow, bringing her hands back to her person: "I must not. I should remain vigilant. Besides, I'm hardly tired just yet." Her words hung in the air with as much weight as she allowed while the swift crisp air blew blonde locks over her shoulders.
"If someone should rest here, let it be you. But.. If you'd rather continue in song, I will listen." Green irises glanced up towards the clouds, full and prominent.
There is joy in spending this precious time away from the difficulties of the worldβ Of the knowledge that the flowers bloom willingly around their feet with a scent of fondness embracing the air. When she looked back towards her brother, the illustration on her face was only that of peace. It was a smileβ Relaxed shoulders and widened eyes.
"That I promise."
β End
[Β ππππππΒ ] β sender hears receiver crying and approaches comfort them (when they're young girls)
She hears it, sometimes: the sniffling.
It's faint, and it never lasts for very long, but Etie has come to recognize the sound from beyond the closed doors of Princess CΓ©line's bedchamber; and sometimes, even in the Hall of the Caring Princess' ring.
The prince isn't around much, during her visits. And whenever Etie asks about him, she gets a gentle swat to the arm and a scolding look from her mother, while Queen Γve just seems... sad.
Resting, is always the answer.
It's never something she brings up during her tea parties with Princess CΓ©line ("that would be rude", her mother's voice echoes in her mind), but she doesn't like leaving it be, either.
So when she hears the sniffles, Etie hides and waits. And once CΓ©line is ready to face the world, Etie is always there to greet her with a smile and bouquet of her village's prettiest flowers.
"I know I came a bit early today, but Mother was going on and ON about some new boutique in the castle town," Etie rambles on, walking with CΓ©line through the castle's halls, "She wanted me to go with her, but I was too excited to see you! What do you have prepared for today?"
She is learning how to tuck away the woes; the growing steeled heart and thrumming defense knowledge becoming all too familiar of a visage.
Mother oft repeats the same wordsβ That she must prepare to take the throne, just in case. A heavy weight thrusted upon a young girl's shoulders as she mourns for a future she hopes never comes. She hears the whispers and sees the sights. Her fingers twirl in her lap.
As she momentarily closes that world behind bedroom doors, Etie is there. She greets her with normalcyβ Talks of a boutique, plans for the day. Eyes of green open at the sight, painting away her straightened lips with a curious tilt. She knew not if her irises still stung of ridden tears, but if they did, the princess is pleased neither bring it up.
"I much rather you'd be here earlier than later," she says softly with a smile. The scent of flowers perishes the burdened emotion, finding herself hit with the most wonderful of sights. The kind face to ease her ever-growing nerves holding them allows her to drop her shoulders.
A blink. ".. βMay I tell you a secret?" CΓ©line takes a step closer towards Etie. Palm presses against her lips as she lowers into a whisper: "I was wanting to explore today.. Not the boutiques, mind you." The smallest of giggles cuts through the air. "A spot in nearby fields. What if we had tea there, instead?"
[Β πππππΒ ] Panette chews slowly, carefully, with a face of pain on her face. She swallows thickly, it's like swallowing sludge. It just goes to show her she shouldn't pick with her eyes. Though, it is with the same organ that she spots a particular princess who embodies a cupcake or something of the sort.
"Greetings Princess Celine!" Panette approaches with the plate of colorful cookies in hand. "You see, I am in a bit of a quandary, I have this whole plate of cookies, but I am absolutely stuffed fuller than a lucky bandit's loot bag. Could you help me finish them?"
Firene's princess eyes widen at the sight of the sweet-filled plate within Panette's grasp, bringing her own hand atop her mouth in surprise: "Goodness, you do seem to be tasked with quite a number of sweets." CΓ©line leans slightly closer, if only to observe the cookies in itself. There are more than even she herself could have, but the image does spark an idea within her mind.
Thus, she repositions herself upright and offers a petite nod. She reaches her free hand towards the tray to grab one of the cookies and brings it closer to her eye level as she continues. Curiously, her head tilts. Brief, in ponderance.
"Worry not! I can certainly assist you. Looking at these more carefully, though.. Ah, yes." A tap against its edges. "I think they would pair nicely with a new tea I found. If you could hold onto them for a moment longer, we can see if that is indeed true."
[Β πππ πΒ ]Β βΒ sender wraps a soft blanket around receiverβs shoulders
"Here, you may catch a cold!" Sakura tenderly whispered as she drew closer to the blonde girl, a soft blanket covering her tiny shoulders as the petite priestess make sure that she was getting warmer.
Perhaps the frost-bitten air had been getting to her more than she had first realizedβ The chills down her back and crossed arms did seldom to shoo away the cold, nor did the thoughts of moving elsewhere.
It was the warmth of a blank she felt first, kindly placed atop her by her friend. CΓ©line shifted her head to face Sakura as she shifted her fingers to curl the blanket further around her person.
"That is certainly possible..," she said in a near whisper. As she rocked on her feet for but a moment, the warmth allowed her enough momentum to keep a strong standstill. A heightened and grateful voice soon followed: "Thank you kindly. That was precisely what I needed! It seems I was more under-prepared than I thought I might be."

(The tour of Brodia Castle brings them to the drawing room, where the grand piano sits. βI play piano! Ah, but you surely knew that alreadyβ¦ my apologies. Sh-Shall I play a song for you? Iβm not sure if I did so last time you came hereβ¦β)
Brodia Castle feels much different than that of Firene's as she wanders the premise and takes in her sights. She hardly minds, even soβ When she visited as a child, the visages she witnessed differed than that of where her green hues draw today. A finger strums past long, blonde locks as she moves herself into the center of the room. Her eyes widen at the sight of the piano, teetering her attention between the large instrument and Prince Alcryst.
"I don't believe you did," she replies warmly. CΓ©line oft finds that music and sound bring about a comfort even her strong words cannot replace. Hum a tune she could, but dance her fingers against the piano? It is an admirable skill. "This may be imprudent of me to say, but.. This room looks like a nice escape. As in.. A place to simply, wellβ Play. All focus can be solely on what's in front of you." Taking a step closer to the piano, she dare not touch it.
The pristine instrument lies in wait, even as she interlaces her fingers in front of her and smiles towards Brodia's prince. "If you don't mind, I would like to hear it."
[Β π ππππππΒ ] β sender gives receiver flowers
What's another flower to a bouquet? Not much, Flayn would presume, but she gives one to Firene's princess regardless. She thinks she's the type of girl who would like plenty of them. "The cleric at the greenhouse had given me some," she explains with a smile, "apparently they had grown lilies in abundance this season!"
It is the life of a lily that draws her attentionβ The warmth it conveys and the friendliness of Flayn alongside it that kindly presents her with one of her own. CΓ©line takes hold of the flower with a warm smile of gratitude etched upon her face, poised all the same.
"Oh? That is fortunate..! I wonder what the reasons may have been." As she presses the flower towards her person, green hues flicker towards the lilies in her classmate's grasp. They remind her of ones sprinkled throughout Firene; a small laugh leaves pink lips: "I was only recently thinking it might be nice to bring some new flora to my room."
Different the flowers of Elyos may be, it is the sight of their buds new and old that settle above all else. "Thank you very much. I shall take good care of it."
[Β ππππππΒ ] β sender hears receiver crying and approaches comfort them
Her recurring dreams follow her no matter where she may be resting; starry skies and crisp air never quite quell it. As her eyes widen and fingers tighten around the white blanket wrapped atop her, CΓ©line propels herself upwards and saunters the empty halls until she finds the respite she so seeks amidst the flower-filled garden.
Perhaps her weeps are louder than she cares to admit; her cries for a thought she cannot erase sitting in her mind. As she bends forward to whisper to the flowers, she finds her tears dancing atop their petals. She takes a long breath; much more than she intends. The footsteps of her brother startle her into an upright position with a quiet sniffle and dismissal: "Alfred, why are you awake at this hour? Did I cause this? Forgive me, if so." CΓ©line's eyes teeter between her brother and the rich sky peering through her sights.
Firene's princess uses the back of her hand to wipe away tears falling from her eyes. One falls quietly onto the ground near her feet as she inches herself to stand atop it. "I am fine. So, please.. There's no need to worry yourself over me. It's all but a restless night."
But she is not oblivious to the sight before herβ To the concern atop Alfred's face. She looks down; towards her fingers knitting themselves against her person. "My dreams are nothing but thatβ A dream. If I remind myself of this, then.. I'll be alright. If you truly wish to comfort me, then.. Do rest."

β where flowers bloom
Anniversary 2024 // Axe +1
The small town adorns itself in reds, yellows, and lilacs. It is near impossible not to notice their abundanceβ Their scent fills the air with a flowery life she never tires of. The princess's eyes trail towards one tree perched along the outskirts as she departs from their small group with quiet steps. Flowers show life; peace and tranquility. They are luscious and strong. But for as mighty as they are, they wilt all the same.
Her petite stature stands tiny against the large field to her rightmost. Her silhouette is drowned away, taking a breath against the solace. "If only..,β" she muses softly to herself. As her shoulders lift and fingers interlace, Firene's princess turns on her heel to the familiar visage of Yunaka.
"Ah, Yunaka..! My apologies. I was drawn towards this plant all by its lonesome." A smile sits atop her lips as she gestures towards the shadow behind her. "The tree's blooms.. It makes for a wonderful display. Wouldn't you agree?" CΓ©line turns around from her brief moment of respite to place a palm atop its bark. "The pink buds atop this very one itself.. They remind me of blossoms scattered not so far from Firene Castle."
As a fallen petal grazes her fingertips and plummets onto the ground, CΓ©line removes her hand to bend forward and place it into her palm; fingers curl around it wordlessly.

MISSION BOARD: SHOWCASE β§Λ Β· . RIDING +1
unabashedly now, the lad watched each move carefully until she brought his attention to several bags. none of their labels rang any bells for him, in fact, he couldn't even remember a beverage being made this way. if morgan was even able to drag himself away from his tomes, water was his first pick.
"uhm," the lad pondered his choices for several moments before landing on one at random, "let's try this one here!" of course, the princess had asked for his preference, but without any memory of the drink... how was he to know? did he like them all, would he like none of them? something about the gamble excited him, even if it was only just a drink.
maybe, drinking it would revive the lost memories he had given up on long ago?
regardless, if she was offering... "or how about all of them? i don't mean to be greedy, but i'd very much like to taste them all." of course, he'd have to reimburse her for all the leaves used in this experiment. should he even hand her gold for the time spent..? that would maybe be too much. "if you make it, i'll be sure to drink every drop! of course, i'll be paying attention too- oh, and I can help if you'd like!"
CΓ©line was surprised at the suggestion of procuring everything at their disposal, moving a light hand hovering atop her mouth. "Oh, truly? All of them? We'd find ourselves with no shortage of beverages," she said with a laugh. "You would be among the first to ask that of me! There is no better way to find your favorite than by sampling."
A lightness swept atop her lips, nodding in agreement. "I would be happy to accept the help. We must steep it and ensure our water is heated adequately. Could you measure out the tea leaves? For our purposes, we need but smaller amounts." CΓ©line opened one palm and drew a petite circle in demonstration, her finger tracing itself twice over before resigning itself back to her side.
It was quite fortunate they had as many materials as they did. Firene's princess scooted the tiny containers of leaves towards the center of their shared space next to the cups and tapped a nail atop one of the cases: "This one is Chamomile tea. We also have ginger, sweet-apple, mint.. And even a FΓ³dlan fruit blend that I have yet to try."

Now that they were here, he couldn't reject the opportunity... not that he wanted to. Though, he was admittedly curious to see how she would do. Diamant knew his own strengthβhe didn't want to ruin the merchant's cultivated air of intrigue by pulling the sword out and ending the game for everyone.
...Ah, well. Perhaps it could serve as motivation for the others.
"Don't mind if I do." He steps onto the podium and stops to do a few arm stretches, warming his muscles in preparation. With how difficult the sword was to pick up for everyone else, it must have been crafted with a heavy metal.
Fingers circle the hilt, and after an experimental tug, the sword remains firmly in place. Diamant hums, grip tightening; he puts far more strength into his next pull, and half of the blade comes out of its groove with a loud grinding sound. The crowd erupts in gasps, and the Brodian king can't help his own self-satisfied smirk. This could be done in his sleep.
He gives the sword one more tug, and the blade partially comes out... only to stop about a fourth of the way there. Diamant arches a brow, and pulls againβpart of the sword remains lodged in the stone, and doesn't give.
"Having trouble?" The merchant asks, "Don't feel bad. You were doing pretty good for yourself! I don't think anyone's managed to get it out as far as you have."
Diamant grunts and tries one more pull, to no avail. Suddenly, it felt as if the sword had gotten heavier, or perhaps there was a part of the rock the blade had gotten stuck on. But in the interest of not embarrassing himself further, he lets the hilt go with a furrowed brow. "...I suppose so."
"Great effort, though!" Heading over the podium himself, the merchant sweeps an arm out, gesturing to the surprised and dubious crowd. "Who'd like to try their luck next? Would anyone like to finish our friend's job!?"
She has been observing carefully how King Diamant tries his hand at the swordβ The way his palms held onto it with a might befitting of his prowess. CΓ©line claps her hands together at the cue, parting with an extended voices. "..Myself," she draws. "I would like to try next." It is enough for the onlookers to swing their head in the direction of the petite princess as she moves to where the King of Brodia is. Her small stature is but all forgotten with the way she holds herself against such a crowd.
Firene's princess stands frontward, green eyes deviating between the crowd and King Diamant. She plants her feet on the ground and leans slightly forward to wrap her fingers. A breath. Another. Then a third. The first tug results in nothingness but a wobble of mere centimeters. Her forehead wrinkles, but her eyes of steel urge her to try again. "Once more," she says in a whisper that only those nearest to her can hear. CΓ©line draws her shoulders back and tugs stronger than before. The sword squeaks loudly against the rock as the sun hits its blade after an insistent struggle.
The crowd roars. Her lips part into surprise as she turns towards the king with sword in hand: "I.. β My, the sword! I must say.. It is with your efforts that we were able to succeed. I am grateful, King Diamant." CΓ©line lowers the item from its upwards position and points it back towards the ground. She holds it tightly in her grip as the merchant moves with a round of applause: "Would you look at that! I was starting to wonder if anyone would be able to do it. Good job, you two! Soβ" He points at the sword sitting alongside the girl and displays a cheeky grin. "The prize is yours."
She is quiet for a moment; pensive. Then, she takes a step closer towards Brodia's King and extends her arms out with the glistening steel. "Would you like to keep it? The sword, that is."
