cody rhodes and cm punk get into a scuffle at the summerslam kickoff show 2026

okay let's talk about it. cody drawing the line at being lil bro'd by punk saying we're not brothers, which is fair he's 41 and he has a real brother. but punk correctly clocking that cody is paranoid because he's been betrayed by his mentors like randy and cena so he's paranoid of punk betraying him too. I think the 'it is very hard to be your friend sometimes' line was 👀

with cena, who was never a heel cody was both betrayed and also accepted his face turn with open arms. with kevin and randy, who are lifelong heels who have betrayed every friend they've had - cody can almost accept it, they are who they are.

"last night your mask slipped a little" we can say this is codys paranoia, but it's also cody knowing punk did his best work as a heel tweener so he doesn't fully buy his current brotherhood babyface act. and punk, true to his word of stabbing cody in the front, immediately shoves him and says this one's intentional, little brother.
