From March, when I came back from my exhibition in Paris, until about September, I found it was an enormous struggle to get back to work.
The usual post- exhibition blues (feeling you have painted yourself out, or that all your
feelings/emotions have been expressed and dealt with as well as you could deal with them.
knowing but not really believing, that because life goes on,you will continue to feel and be compelled to deal with these feelings) were more extreme this time.
I spent the Summer saving turf, digging in my vegetable plot and swimming less than usual.
The bog--- the clarity of it, the other worldliness, the space, the peace-the image of the white plastic bags of turf arranged over the bog like little medieval armies or creatures climbing over the hill.
All this seems to be inserting itself into my work now.
Shows once again that the fallow time which is so agonizing is never lost.
