Ronan let out a displeased grunt as he swung the bat a solid two seconds too late, catching nothing but air. “Motherfucker,” He growled, mostly to himself. Apparently semi sober Ronan had severely overestimated drunk Ronan’s athletic capabilities. “I have one more shot!” He called out before the other boy could say a word, and began feeling around in the dark for the singular ball they’d been able to locate on the immense, empty field. At this point, seeing as there was no money on the line, most people as drunk as he was would give up and slink back to the bar… but Ronan’s pride refused to go anywhere until he at least tapped the goddamn ball. Cameron could probably do it, he thought bitterly as he wiped some of the dirt off the ball and made his way back to the home plate. Feeling like he couldn’t possibly make it all the way to the pitcher’s mound to hand the ball back to Finn, Ronan tossed it up into the air and then quickly swung the bat out after it. The loud CRACK of metal hitting rubber nearly surprised the dark haired boy onto his ass. He wasn’t expecting to hit the ball, let alone send it directly over Finn’s head into the darkness beyond. “I did it!” He beamed proudly. 

Whilst Ronan’s methods were somewhat unorthodox, Finn wasn’t about to shit on his parade and tell him he couldn’t have a shot at a home run. Eyes traced the arc of the ball as it soared above the pitch, tumbling into the far corner, Finn stumbling backwards as he tried to keep his eyes on it’s direction. “Well, fuckin’ run, you eejit!” The lad began with a start, heading off at a sprint towards the far corner, a new-found adrenaline pulsing in his veins. For a few hours, he could ignore the inevitability of a nine-am start, or the reality the Harleen was probably waiting up for him, since he claimed he’d only be gone for one pint, but somehow with the haze of biting life he was feeling surging through him, none of that seemed to matter as his arms pumped against the beat of the wind. Double vision, his fingers reached for what he thought was the ball and tore at a lump of grass, flinging it behind him with a laugh. When the ball eventually found it’s way into his hand, feet firing in his quest to catch Ronan out, when the deafening blare of an alarm stopped him in his tracks. “Shit!”

Feet stumbled across the curb, fraying laces of his docs dragging in the puddles as he attempted to cross the road, a taxi cab nearly ending his short and uneventful life. In the brief second his head returned to his body with a sinking feeling of inevitability, he turned back, knowing that to carry on home would only wrack his brain all night with thoughts of her drugged-up body swinging round a table for a bit of extra cash. A reluctant sigh left his lips as he swung through the door, the instant scent of liquor and perfume overwhelming him as he tried to bat the smoke from his eyes. He found each face in turn, scratching them off his mental register until at last they landed on hers, a cropped wig almost obscuring her features though the nose and mouth he knew to be recognisably hers. And what was his plan, now? Now that he was merely a few feet away, her eyes locked on his, his brows knitted in an expression of discomfort in the get up they’d slung her in. He could hardly charge her out of the place without so much as a backwards glance, lest he get his brains blown across the cocktail bar. Eyes met the floor, avoiding her stare as he slid into a booth and cleared his throat, a muttered ‘we need to talk’ leaving his mouth as he waited for the inevitable snappish comeback of what the fuck he thought he was doing there.

“I just witnessed somebody projectile vomiting over a bonsai tree. Night ruined,” Percy drably interjected, yawning into a champagne flute as if he was above lace frills and glittered politics. So far the masquerade had been mind numbing in its predictability. Percy wanted a scandal that didn’t leave him itching for something more. “Want to know what I think?”

The flick of an ace of spades lighter saw the end of his cigarette lit, Finn lifting it to his lips to take a hearty drag. He hardly cared for the rich kid’s opinion on bonsai trees -- he’d just come out to light up not to engage in conversation -- and there was far more to rock the boat about than a drunk freshman puking up their insides, but Finn made an effort not to comment, knowing that not everyone moneyed was a unbearable snob and to assume so would render him just as prejudice as those who hated Levi for his wealth. “...What?” The forensics student muttered after a prolonged sigh, shoulders lifting in a shrug as he tugged at the too-tight collar of his shirt.

Damon: clint eastwood? is that you?

Damon: i really don't dislike you all that much actually

Damon: i should be the one asking what the fuck you want. i'm obviously not into harleen and you know what? since you're so dead fuckin set on arguing, how about we acknowledge the elephant in the room

Harleen sat on the bed, hair a mess of waves cascading down her bare back, the blanket resting around her waist as she scrolled through her phone notifications. Finn was in the bathroom getting ready for bed, Harleen hearing the running sink as he brushed his teeth while she clicked on a notification on the zine. While she didn’t usually care for exposures, mostly because she didn’t care for the people they were about, it was good to know what she could use against someone for whatever given reason. The names at the top did catch her attention, though, so she scrolled through it, only one thing in particular really catching her eye. “Finnegan?” She looked up from her phone, waiting for Finn to stick his head out of the bathroom door, toothbrush still in his mouth. “I think I’m a little confused here. This expose says Pearl and Bradley have shared you,” she says, raising an eyebrow and showing him the phone. “I wasn’t aware they ever had you. Is there something you want to tell me?”

Toothpaste gathered at the corners of his mouth, spilling from the edges as the bristles scrubbed between his teeth, frothing lips attempting to hum the verse of a Stormzy song. Fingers threaded themselves through his hair, shaking the water from his locks like a dog in a rainy April, the sound of Harleen’s voice sending him leaning out the bathroom. His grip on the door frame almost faltered at her question, the expression on her face enough to make Finn realise that a cheap joke and a ruffle of her hair wouldn’t pull him out of this one. But what he’d done to deserve it, he hardly knew. Reluctantly, a sigh left his lips, the toothbrush falling into the basin as he towel-dried his face preparing himself to face the wrath of the red queen. “Baby, listen...” Finn began, the words sounding foreign from his lips, his nose wrinkling at the sour taste the pet name left in his mouth. “Grim.” He gathered his senses, slinging the towel over his shoulders  as he dropped down beside Harleen, brows furrowing as he took the phone from her hands. “Right,” Finn declared, incredulity lacing his features as he continued to scan the exposure. “Cool. Apparently I’m New York’s most eligible play boy. Who knew?” Another sigh broke from his lips as he dropped back against the pillows, his index finger tracing patterns against her ribs as his lips pursed into a hardened line. “Well it’s bullshit at any rate. I’ve not slept with either of them. Don’t you think you’d be the first to know if I had? You’re like Nancy fuckin’ Drew with your Facebook stalking skills.” His teeth ground against each other as he skimmed through the article once more, turning to face her as he ran the towel through his damp tresses. “What the fuck. Why would anyone say that? It’s just not true. They love drama. They just live for it. Half the shit in it is fake anyway, and that-- that definitely is.”
