Episode 002 - Evolution, Consistency and Format
Episode 002 is here. Yay!
https://soundcloud.com/universityboy/find-your-unique-002
At this early stage, I get a feeling that the idea of voice is going to go way beyond podcasting and I've got all sorts ideas on potential interviewees who could provide amazing value through their own journey in finding what works for them.
Last week I talked about Steven Johnson linking apparently unrelated things together to show how joined up they truly are. It's an idea I aim to keep hold of as Find Your Unique takes hold.
Onwards to what's in the show...
Episode Guide
Introduction - Where I explain that, until recently, I wasn't even listening to podcasts, let alone recording my own.
Finding your way as your podcast starts and evolves - Where it becomes clear that your voice will evolve before you've even hit record for the first time. And why perfectionism needs pounding down.
Generalist versus niche [08:10] - Where new podcasts don't currently need to be as niche as new blogs do, but do need to be consistent.
Why can't this be in a video or text format instead? [13:10] - Where we explore context and the reason why each medium has its own set of considerations. Also, how to start repurposing your old content so it can fit other formats.

The one podcast I was regularly listening to (and I didn't even think of it as a podcast): http://unmistakablecreative.com/
A tech podcast called All of the Above, which is the name I was going to give this podcast. But, in the end, I had to Find My Unique (y'know, as in Find Your Unique...heh): http://www.alloftheabove.audio/ http://www.alloftheabove.audio/episodes/020 - Latest episode (at time of this show) features a great template for creating personas. http://www.alloftheabove.audio/episodes/019 - Previous episode is about interior design in the digital and automation age.
Serial - In case you aren't yet aware of one of the most listened to podcasts. http://serialpodcast.org/
The daily podcast that has a wonderful way to quote others...just lower the quality a bit and you change the dynamic for quoting. Simple! I'll definitely use this technique now. http://www.todayifoundout.com/

Find Your Unique - Episode 001
Are you happy with your podcasting voice? How would you like to take it further?
Perhaps you’re not sure whether to start a show at all.
Find Your Unique is a brand new podcast about finding your own, distinctive voice. I’m Martin...and I wanted to work out how broadcasting is different to writing or speaking to an audience.
That’s what sparked the idea for this show. If I need to make a journey working out what’s best for my voice, why not make something useful from it?
So, here we go! Episode 001 of Find Your Unique. Follow me on Soundcloud or follow this site for each time a new episode drops. These posts will be show notes, featuring your episode guide and any links mentioned.

Episode Guide
Introduction - Where I introduce myself to you and explain that this show about finding a unique voice is as much a journey for me as it is for you. We're in that sweet spot right now where podcasting is a great opportunity on so many levels. Your voice is antsy to get out there and it wants to be let out.
Nerves, the microphone and listening to your own voice - Where you need to make a game of recording your voice, think more about how you think less when talking to friends, and relax in the thought that rocking up to the mic gets easier every time you do it.
Podcasting is the new music - Where we're just starting out as composers and your first recordings are like early compositions. But since an increasing number of people are turning to podcasts when they want to listen to something, it's worth getting those early works out of the way so you can move ever closer to creating your own game-changing masterpieces.
To create or curate? - Where we look at the difference between Steven Johnson presenting a show compared to being a podcast guest. And I share the fantastic lesson that we can learn from Johnson for linking what's happened in the past and linking it to our lives today. In other words, curating content in order to create new content.

Setting Up
I’m getting ready to drop a new show about finding your own, distinctive voice (or voices) for broadcast.
Who am I? Who are you? How do we put our best words forward? The journey of going from not having listened to podcasts through to being a long-term host of your own shows will bring a lot of questions along the way.
This show helps you (and me) discover what works. With different themes for each show and interviews with established podcasters, there’s a lot to explore. And now is a good time to get thinking about your own podcast and making sure you get it sounding just right for you and your listeners.
