My mother is a superhero to me, and I drew a lot of inspiration from her. I drew a lot of inspiration from some of my mentors and teachers, and all of these incredible women who are in my life who are not known in the history books. I am who I am as a person, as a citizen, as an artist because of them.

Make sure they are somebody who lets you cry, too. Despair will come. Find someone you want to be there through those times. Most importantly, marry the one that makes passion, love and madness combine and course through you. A love that will never dilute. Even when the waters get deep and dark. [insp.]

I remember when those doors flung open, even though they weren’t really there, just looking up and making that entrance was something that was very powerful for me as this character. I learned that that’s what she does; she knows how to make an entrance. That’s how she intimidates people. It was the fun; the joy in it and also the real truth of this pain and anger and resentment that she’s been carrying all these years.”
