Day 51- Apartment hunting in NYC
Today I’m in New York City to see two apartments. The first apartment is in Harlem, and it’s a 2 br with another trans guy. I’m meeting him at 2pm. Then I’m seeing another apartment in Brooklyn at 8pm.
After going to the first apartment, the area was awful, I didn’t feel very safe. When I saw the apartment, I got bad vibes and it was very small and dirty. I took the train back downtown Manhattan and was feeling so bad because that might be my last resort if the apartment in Brooklyn doesn’t work out. I tried to cheer myself up at my favorite spot, my “home” in Greenwich village, but I still was feeling awful.
Later that night, I left a bar in Greenwich and took the train to Brooklyn to see the other apartment at 8. I got off the train at the stop and when I went up to the street, the neighborhood looked just like Greenwich. I met a genderqueer individual that lived there and they showed me the apartment. It was beautiful. It felt like home. I walked back to the train feeling perfectly safe in the neighborhood.
My mood lifted. I got my hopes up. I knew that a lot of other people were interested in the apartment too, but I had to believe this was right. I had to believe after everything I’ve gone through, that this place would be my next, much happier chapter in life. My next chapter would be where I end up in a beautiful place like that in New York City where all would be right with the world.
