Finch was born in Seattle, Washington. They were born deaf and with a congenital heart disease-- they were born premature. Their parents had accepted them at first, their hearing had not gotten in the way of them taking care of them. However, as they grew older, their parents chose not to teach them ASL as their language, instead, choosing to teach them English since it was easier for them. This caused a huge delay in their learning which then affected the relationship of Finch and their parents. Because they found it too hard to care for a deaf child, Finch, at the age of 3, got sent to their aunt who was able to communicate in sign language.
Finch flourished when it came to living with their aunt. They learned ASL. They found out that Finch was a very smart child once they learned how to communicate. A year in with their aunt, they were given an opportunity to get cochlear implants on both ears. The operation was successful which led them to start learning English, which they also excelled at.
Finch’s aunt had to move for her work, moving to Europe-- to Spain, in particular. This led to them learning Spanish. Their aunt moved frequently around Europe which made them pick up more languages easily. They spoke six languages fluently when Finch and their aunt decided to move to Korea, because of her work. Two years spent in Korea made them fluent in the language too, which made their language total seven.
After a while, at fifteen years old, they decided to move back to the United States, in Los Angeles. Finch could finally settle down after that. But because they moved around frequently, they had trouble making friends while in school. Plus, they were also bullied for being the deaf, infinitely more fragile, and gay kid in school. Graduating high school was a huge relief to them because then they could finally focus on their love for languages.
Finch studied in Loyola Marymount University, majoring in Romance Languages and Theatre. After finishing their undergraduate degree, they decided to take a graduate degree in translation in the same university. They only recently finished and graduated from their MA course.
While working for a company doing translation, they had met a boy whom they instantly fell in love with. They were sure that they were going to end up married to each other— it was quick but they were absolutely sure of it. Finch moved to Chicago to follow their boyfriend, only to come back a year later, heartbroken and alone.
Coming back to LA, Finch decided to work for Disneyland. They used to be an interpreter until one kid and their moms mistakenly saw them as tiny Steve Rogers. They were asked for some pictures which they said yes to and it blew up that there was a “pre-serum Steve Rogers” running around Disneyland. Ever since then, they would have appearances as the said character, tiny next to the actual Steve Rogers in the blue suit.
