A film adaptation of the well loved Novel Jane Eyre.
My friend and I both love Mia a lot so she recommended that I watch this film. I must say that when I tried to read the book that I did not find it interesting at all but this film really brings to life the novel in a fascinating way and no matter if you are like me and did not like the book. it still engages you greatly and causes you to form an attachment to the characters and feel just as they feel.
I would say that the weight of this film is firmly placed on the actors. As the story can be quite distant from the now, it was really in their hands to show you the emotions in order to keep you interested in what happens. Obviously Mia was amazing, I am yet to watch her in something I do not like. She really showed the emotions of Jane and as you watched her, it felt like you were feeling everything Jane was feeling with her. Mia is such a wonderful actress. However, all the other actors in the film were perfect. Fassbender was amazing as per usual but even the actors playing minor roles really presented their characters well and just made the whole movie seem so real and that it could have truly happened.
The cinematography was beautiful. There were some interesting shots and some truly beautiful ones, it was like the person directing was really in love with the story and it showed through the camera angels and the close ups and everything was just so beautiful to watch. It was like nothing could be going on but I would still want to continue watching because the camera was as engaged with what was going on as the actors were. Such a beautiful film.
The way the story was told made it really easy to follow. The flash backs worked perfectly and felt natural. I thought that starting at the end, a bit like Wuthering Heights does, and then working your way through the story really made it easier to understand and I think that was an intelligent choice to make. it enabled the watcher to know what the plot was going to inevitably lead up to and therefore the impact of when it does hurts a lot more. It was perfectly structured. Furthermore, the lines were great. I could go from laughing to feeling deep sadness in a few minutes as the lines told the story so well. Each line mattered and really had an impact on me as an audience. It was perfect.
The scenery was beautiful. The houses that they chose to film in really set the scenes well as they held a serene and sombre tone that the story holds. The costumes were beautiful, as like period dramas and the set made you feel like you were there.
Just everything about this film was so great. I am so glad that I watched it as I have not watched a beautiful period drama in a while and really showed me that this must be my favourite genre of films. Mia was amazing. The whole thing was like a stunning dream.
