You say we’re a lot alike. In reality, I cannot fathom the cruel way your mind works and you know nothing of me.

I hope one day you step far enough over the line that I can hate you. It would make things so much easier.

Ideals of beauty are subjective and socially constructed, changing with time and place. Fuck ‘em. Embrace “ugly.” Beauty is a capricious liar. Forget the fleeting opinions of strangers, and base your self-worth on who you are and what you do.

Be kind to yourself, always. We are all still learning.

If I die a coward I won’t have lived at all. I won’t let that happen.

If I ever stop having growing pains, if I’m not learning anything and my muscles aren’t aching, that’s how I’ll know I’m doing something wrong.

Sometimes silence is not acceptance or complacence, but subterfuge. By the time you see me coming it will be too late.

If you ever had any doubt you would survive into 2018, I’m proud of you for making it this far. A year is a long time, especially when you’re fighting so hard. I’m glad you’re here.

Your assumption of my innocence makes it all the easier to slip things under your nose. Shame on me for abusing your trust, but everybody lies sometimes, right?

There’s no shame in having an illness or disability, or several. No such thing can diminish your worth as a human. There’s no shame in getting the help you need to lead the life you want to live. There’s also no shame in having things you’ll simply never be able to do.

Kick and scream as you may, there is no force on Earth that can stop the tide. Those foolish enough to oppose it will be washed out to sea.
