The ties here are temporary

This picture is from a month ago and I had COMPLETELY forgotten how ridiculously I had managed to load this spindle.

Nettle fibers from last year. Gonna try some new methods this summer, but it’s a bit difficult to get into it when you don’t have a garden to dew ret it, or space for a trough of water.

Made it last summer before going off on an excavation. It has come in handy many times since. I dare anyone who sees this to assemble a smaller one! Or share your own emergency travel kit.

Boiled the plant (around 25g fresh, leaves and stalk, chopped up into smaller pieces) for a couple of hours, let it cool for a bit before popping the yarn in. After letting it simmer for a little, I transferred everything to a jar. Left the yarn in there overnight before taking it out and rinsing it.

First ever attempt at bronze casting last fall. Mind you, done using bronze age methods! Obviously a fail, but one I’m quite fond of nonetheless. Last picture is of the original wax model, depicting a little ship reminiscent of the one engraved in one of the Rørby Scimitars and a sun wheel above it.
