Wendy crumbled momentarily as Craig sent volts in her direction. Â It was unavoidable; the electricity made all her muscles seize at once, and down she went. It took the air out of her for a moment, but she didnât let herself stay down. Â In but a few moments, she hauled herself back into a standing position, jaw still tightly clenched, hair now frazzled and on end.
On the whole, being tased (twice) had been far worse, she thought.
The roaring in her ears from being shocked had blocked the dialogue between Kenny and Craig. Â But Kenny now stood before her, directly in Craigâs path of attack. Â Curious. Â Was Kenny defending her? Or was he jut eager to see the woman make her choice? Â Or was he just drunk and conveniently in the way? Â Wendy turned back to the woman, gratefully. Â Now, thanks to Kenny, whatever his reason, she could get back to the important work.
The woman with the gun looked conflicted. Â The stupid cow was trembling all over, despite the fact that she now held the weapon. Â Wendy sneered at her. Â âSo make a choice,â Wendy poked at her wrist in allusion to a watch, âwe donât have all fucking day here.â
The woman pointed the gun at Wendy, the barrel still shaking.Â
Wendy tsked. Â âBad choice.â
She ducked under the barrel in the next second. Â Diving forward, she tackled the womanâs legs. Â The woman fired, but her imbalance made the shot go wild and hit the roof. Wendy went momentarily deaf at the close proximity of the bullet. Â This didnât stop her however, from grabbing the womanâs arm, slamming it back against the seat behind them, and disarming her in a matter of seconds. Â She threw the woman off herself, where the other immediately flinched away, instinctively protecting her own face.
Wendy stood, brushed herself off.  âI did give you a chance to save your own skin,â she said, and then her brow wrinkled, âbut you tried to cheat. This is about CHOOSING, donât you understand?  You canât cheat the choice, you bitch; everyone has to make it!â
She bent down, and hauled the woman to her feet again, gun still clenched in one fist and now held dangerously close to the womanâs face. Â The woman kept looking at it, eyes flitting about nervously.
"Now, Iâm going to be uncharacteristically GENEROUS, and give you a second fucking chance," Wendy grabbed the womanâs hands, fitted her finger around the gunâs trigger. Â She pointed it at the man, who had flattened himself against the rear.
"Please," the man said.  He had turned from green to pale yellow, "IâŚI donât want to dieâŚplease?"
"What do you say?" Wendy looked deep into the shaking womanâs eyes. Â "Is it gonna be him, or is it gonna be you?" Â Wendy released the womanâs hands, and took a step back.
Sound exploded in the small train compartment. Â Then silence.
