IT'S RIGHT THERE.
I saw on one post earlier this week that "unfortunately", diverse content (poc, queer, lesbian, ect) from Indies are not enticing because it's A) not readily accessible and in their faces, and B) not as high quality as what they're used to.
DO NOT. BE. THAT. PERSON. Straight people, especially Cis White men voted with their wallets. We should have done that a lot more with the Indie scene. Yes, that means searching for it. Yes, that means doing more than reblogging a cool little project and putting your dollars where your mouth is. Indie creators can't GET funding if even those who demand such content won't.... support it? Vote with your wallets. I promise you, there's no better victory for a racist White guy than seeing us complain that the content isn't there, then coming up with whatever excuse is on that overused dartboard for why you turned away from the content you swore up and down you wanted to see. Because that "high quality" content can't be built on nothing, and they have to start somewhere.
So let's not vote the same exact way a man who spams "woke" like some pissant. "Thoughts and prayers" was a GREAT phrase to describe reblogging and doing little else. We have to be ready to BE more for the people creating this content we want. Like, follow me en masse if you REALLY want someone to find the stuff for you!
Anypoo, I'm just a little salty that we have this classical painting of a visual novel with AN ALL BLACK CAST about to fail its campaign because too many people thought just sharing it on social media was enough. The production value of the demo is INSANE, given the creator funded it with a Walmart payroll. And they're giving the first game out for free. I can't fathom what more some of you could want!
Vote with your wallets. Not (just) with a repost.
Original Game Free! The revolution begins. Can Xjena survive rising violence and The Great Silence— Xal's final extinction event?
SPOILERS FOR THE WOMEN OF XAL II KICKSTARTER DEMO.
That's right, the shit that I'm about to tell you is so radically unexpected that even my petty ass dropped spoiler warnings. This is part 3 of my commentary for the visual novel. Use those beautiful little fingers and look at my feed for the other two parts. Or play the demo and back the game before the Kickstarter fails. Just turn those pretty words of support into action and you'll be supporting real artists, real writers, and that queer content ya'll are so parched for. Anypoo, let's talk about this fucked up part of the demo.
When we last left off, Xjena was left a message over Xicanna's dead body. Written in blood. For those of you who played the first game, this is an obvious, dangerous escalation from everything faced prior. Now you've been named. Marked. Targeted as an enslaver. With nothing left to do, you head back to the castle on xragoon-back.
Xjena, on her way back to the castle, talks to Liz about how Xuna didn't have all these unique problems, and that she needs to sort things out before it's too late. Liz cleanly states that she's just there to make sure Xjena doesn't die. Xjena, bless her cute ass, really said she won't die because she has vague foresight powers. Bonkers MC energy, but I digress. The sky's crimson hue mixing with purple is BEAUTIFUL. The artist that replaced the original CG artist? Chef's kiss. Bro really saw the original art and the story and cooked a full course meal. Something that, by the way, costs money. I hope none of you think that Black creators can just have money fall on their lap for your consumption all the time. (Fund the Kickstarter if this is your jam)
But returning home wasn't... normal. Everyone's gone. Sentries, friends, lovers, staff. All those lovely fucks. Gone. Liz and Xjena's phones are acting up, and Liz immediately summons her broadsword. Something is terribly wrong.
When I got here, and the option to save or rollback before this moment vanished, I was locked the fuck in. This wasn't the cutesy murder stuff from the first game. This was something genuinely unsettling and brought no end of questions for me. Because there's nothing in the lore that explains a suddenly abandoned castle. There's nothing connecting the events of the demo leading up to this point. Only the fact the sky was becoming increasingly creepy throughout the scenes. Something I didn't really notice until the ride back. For the first time in the series, I genuinely felt uneasy. I kind of chuckled when I realized that Women of fucking Xal had me hesitant to continue ahead. I was afraid of jump scares or frightening imagery. And that's when I decided that this demo might actually make me a full fledged fan of the series.
Xjena and Liz walk into the castle...
Part 4 gets into heavier spoilers, so maybe play the demo before then.
Guys if you want queer shit written by queers on our own terms you're going to have to start seeking out weird independent media. I'm sorry that's the only place you can regularly find it idk what to tell you, we can't keep acting like there's nothing if we're not getting blockbusters and triple A titles or whatever it is we're waiting around for. The thing you keep saying you want is already being offered for free by one person making a passion project on the internet and you would both benefit enormously if you interacted with it instead of lamenting that the only options we have for representation are pandering afterthoughts from corporate shit
So many likes! How many adding to the notes sought out the content though?
Rediscovered a lot of pictures of my late dad. And now I'm all littered with conflicting feelings. I love him a lot and he, TO ME, was a great dad to me, and certainly a good husband for mom.
"TO ME" is doing some heavy fucking lifting in that sentence though.

Women of Xal II Needs to Fail
Yes the Kickstarter that's not out yet. No not for the reason you think.
I actually liked the first game. I came in ready to tear it apart but what I got was a political lesbian fantasy that fucked me up in a good way. But like most people I only heard about it because a fan was making a lot of noise on social media and it went viral. Without that post the first kickstarter would have probably failed.
The second game looks better in every area. I love how it is coming together! But a part of me can't help but hope the second campaign fails. I think the creator is being awfully naïve in assuming it can get funded just because he was an ambitious overachiever the first time. Again I LIKE the first game and want to see how it ends! But I personally disagree with his approach here.
He's fostering an environment of anti-discourse. Yes what got him on the map was a contentious post but he's practically discouraging the very thing that got him noticed in the first place. And he's doing it with a cast front heavy with dark skinned women. In a visual novel. It's like he's setting himself up to fail and it's hard to watch.
Second I guess is that it all comes across as someone with faith that if he builds it, they will come. But that's not the Black experience, and I think a good shake in the form of failure would remind him of that. That his followers are mostly comprised of reactionary and performative allies. The second game has nothing to prove now. And he's shutting down anonymous dms that could have helped market his game if he had just fanned the flames even a little.
tl;dr: I want to see him fail to fund that kickstarter. Try new methods or at LEAST stand to the side and let drama happen. I really think that it will lead to having a larger fanbase that cares about the series before any controversy and after. btw if you're reading this and aren't who I'm talking about, don't complain to me! If the shoe don't fit!
…Mmkay. Just so your ass is properly prepped: I am that bitch that lit a fire under Tumblr that you are referencing. And guess who's unhelpful post just popped up on my feed? In front of my damned salad?
Who gives a shit if you're right or I'm right? You keep making posts that are targeting the creator of Women of Xal, but you clearly have no idea how patient and utterly immune to provocation he is. He's been that way for decades, and your little piss of a post isn't going to break that. You know why? Because that "Black experience" you harp on about INCLUDES those measured, sharp responses that cut down discourse. That keeps his inner peace unperturbed. Especially during the campaign when he wants it to succeed on its own merits.
Yes, there needs to be a loud, vocal discussion that honestly looks at why Women of Xal II, is the only popular game on Kickstarter that's failing when it's the only game with dark skinned women in the forefront. Yes, we need to name it for the bullshit that it is. I am also pissed, and I will gladly make it Tumblr's problem. But your way? At this point in time? During the campaign? Fucking useless. His followers aren't even the problem (other than not talking about the game itself), it's the fact media outlets and influencers did not do shit for this game despite the outreach attempts. And drama might not even be enough this time with the "anti-woke" propaganda gaining traction these days. You're essentially just guessing and assuming about a lot of dangerous factors that may not pan out for John or his team. In other words, and to reiterate: Fucking useless.
I don't care what your ethnicity is, fuck off.
Y'all Women of Xal II is the only somewhat trending game on Kickstarter that isn't funded. And its extra infuriating because it's also the only one with all Black characters.
Now I'm not accusing people of racism, but that shoe looks pretty fucking snug right now.
Let everything burn
Also my links!
Bluesky
I can't relate to people who throw away their ex's gifts... I mean, do you only receive cheap gifts? Even so, why throw away something they bought with their adult money and even proved that a person once loved you?
Part 2 of Women of Xal II's demo, for those who can't and won't play it. Play the first game if you don't want to be spoiled. I can't help you if 'free' is too high a cost.
Shortly after Liz tells you there's a dead body outside with your name on it, she also tells you that the messenger refused to divulge in the details of the message's contents. Well that's weird. No one would dare do that Xuna~ Anypoo, Clanice interrupts and gives a VALID warning that Xjena shouldn't be complacent, and that things are unsettling in both timing and actions. Now, she's being a bit prissy and clever with it BECAUSE SHE'S JUST LIKE THAT, but she is telling you VERY good advice. Derailed by Axay crashing into the conversation making a Steven Universe reference. Appreciate her intrusion for what it is, because this is the silliest this demo gets. The happy Women of Xal I energy dies with her departure from the demo.
Because that dead body is GNARLY. Xicanna lies dead in the corner, and a message in blood reads "HERE LIES XJENA THE ENSLAVER". The thread is clear. Someone, or more likely, an entire faction, wants Xjena, you, dead. And labeled you a slave owner. Which is true, but you're one of the good ones! Xjena even heavily implies as much when she voices her frustrations! Wishing they'd not target her when she's trying to help from within!
And this is where it gets delicious. The first game VERY VERY VERY slowly leads you into its themes. Dabbles then lets you go on your way. The sequel's holding onto everything and sinking its teeth in, putting its foot down. Your media literacy quiz has begun. Naxia and Merixa make their appearance and give their perspectives on the group that killed Xicanna, Xicanna's sins of gross neglect, and why Xjena is a target but Xuna never was. But Xjena is overcomplicating it: Own slaves, get targeted. But she's about to find out that the demo's pacing is fucking rapid fire because
Part 3 soon...

Who tf are you? Why are you shilling this game so bad? I don't like this
Well, you see anon, when you actually possess genuine love and appreciation for something
especially something that usually gets left in the dirt, like, say, a heavily queer romance game with an all black cast, including the MC, and that allows you to be MANY flavors of queer - lesbian, bi/pansexual, ace, even polyamorous
and you are aware of just how much passion and love the devs have for their own creation, despite being well aware of how the deck is stacked against them in terms of racism, queerphobia, everything indie devs have to fight against before all that...
You try to help fight against that in whatever way you can!
However, I am by far not some big tumblr blog with hundreds of thousands of followers. I have generally been content to do my own little thing in my own little corner. Which is fine, generally, but is a problem when I want to really help rally a cause I'm passionate about.
So yeah! I have to do things the old fashioned way by going to people individually and telling them about this game! Because, clearly, me just posting about it, reblogging from the dev, is only going to get me so far.
Which is frustrating, let me tell you, because then I go to look at how the kickstarter is doing, and see it's not even halfway, and there's only a week left, and I'm well aware of how they're down $5,000 because of fuckery from some scammer on kickstarter...
...and then I get to look at tumblr, or twitter, and at any given time see a post going
"MLM media is ALWAYS more popular than WLW, it's misogyny, people are so male-centered, there's no WLW media"
with thousands of notes, retweets, etc
A fraction of attention which cannot be sent this game's way
Like, I've tried to stay bubbly and positive when rec'ing this game to all the people I've tried to talk to on various social medias, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't kinda pissed about all that. Women of Xal is SUCH a good series, with SO much dedication to it from the devs, that it deserves more than what it's getting.
Anyway. Check out Women of Xal, and the kickstarter for its sequel. You can get the first game for free right now while this kickstarter is running.
It is a political fantasy drama where you play as Xjena, a young woman with the ability to see into the future. You are gunning for the powerful political position known as "Matriarch", but have to compete with various other women for this spot. Other mysteries and drama are all happening at the same time. There are a plethora of romantic options, some of which you can pursue polyamory with, and all of which you can refuse if you decide to be asexual.
If you want even more detail on the story, this post does an excellent job on that.
You can get this first game for free on itchio with no trouble, and get it for free on Steam if you simply hit up the dev's discord
Original Game Free! The revolution begins. Can Xjena survive rising violence and The Great Silence— Xal's final extinction event?
Now if you'll excuse me, I am going to try not to throw rocks through people's windows.
Since there's a whole ass demo with women of color not at ALL being talked about online, I'll be the first to talk about Women of Xal II's story. (If I sound unenthusiastic about the first game I'm sorry. It's been years since I unlocked the true ending and frankly I never felt the story hit the peaks of Mesto Accelerando or Vijiri's Path from the same author. Those stories fucking slapped and I dare anyone to tell me WoX1 could match either.) Spoilers for the first game because come on now.
Anypoo, the sequel immediately opens more moody and cinematic. A mysterious woman sings in an isolated dark place as the title screen appears. It's relatively private. Personal. Full of an emotion you cannot confidently name. Something was immediately off and almost tragic. I was immediately raising an eyebrow. Because THIS is the kind of vibe I wanted to see.
Then the clock sounds play and you're thrown in Xjena's shiny new office. Just woke up. Probably doing the dream loop thing again. Not that you know; all you got was a vaguely threatening line of text from the game. But the music plays, it's cozy and low-key, the characters are cute and clever as always. Valimer fixed his unfortunate hairstyle and Velvet is slightly less impulsive, all is chill. The vibes are immaculate.
Anyway, dead body. There's news of a dead woman in an alleyway with your name etched in blood. It's Xicanna's, the hot freckled woman with the muscles. Owns Nox, the hot brat with glasses.
This is that sequel pacing that I ADORE from this writer. Instead of the slow build we get in the original, it's intrigue and escalating pacing with compelling mysteries five minutes into the damned story.
Follow this blog if you want to read part 2. Or if you're fine with experiencing it yourself, here's the free demo.
Not meant to be shared on other blogs, I swear if we let Women of Xal II's Kickstarter fail I'm gonna crash out like it's 2019.
Alright buckle up. I'm about to tell you what the visual novels Women of Xal and Women of Xal II are about, since the latter's campaign is running cold. Ignoring the diversity and inclusion stuff. Full disclosure, I like the first game but I GREATLY prefer Mesto Accelerando and Vijiri's Path from the same writer. However I don't want to be the bitch who talks about wanting to see games like Women of Xal succeed while contributing nothing worthwhile to making that happen. So here's the breakdown, from a fan.
When you start the first game, you're immediately going to have to deal with media literacy and subtext. There's no getting around it. It starts literally immediately. Playing as Xjena, you try to learn about how to best become the next queen bae as well as the world you want to make social changes in. But it's clear early on that things are off. Tensions are high, magical maiming, you can get murdered for just putting your hands on the current queen, men are enslaved, half the cast are emotionally damaged, someone put a hex on your power of foresight, you might be in a time loop that isn't actually a time loop, murder is okay, and, of course, we can't forget about the kidnapped children.
Someone is kidnapping children by the masses for unknown purposes on top of everything else you and Xjena have to deal with. So good fucking luck trying to make a compelling case for why you should be the next capable queen while sorting out all that trauma people have. And unless you are doing a second playthrough and know what you're doing, you WILL have to prioritize. Impress the queen with your competence, or talk to a woman who still remembers having to almost choke a child to death and having trauma from that. Teach a man to read and discover an actual joy for creation for the first time, or train your magic. Be a literal bad bitch or a beautiful blushing disaster (or something that mixes the two.)
Did I give too much away? Well now you know why the creators are typically mum regarding the story. I didn't even tell you about escaping the dark timeline plot. There's a lot of shit there that I didn't even touch on. Like the nuanced gender politics, the reason most players don't have the exact same playthrough ever, how dark and real this game gets and feels, and how silly and compassionate the game can be at the right times.
So you there, casually wondering why fans of this series have been getting louder and louder: It's because we're trying to lead thirsty horses to water and well... we want creators and especially this one to be recognized for the quality and effort he put into the two games. The Kickstarter for the sequel is, to be blunt, projected to fail. And I don't think that sends a good message. First game is free during the campaign, has WAY more content than I mentioned (seriously just click the link and see for yourself!), 100% positive reviews on Steam, and there's a free demo of the second game. (Which fucks so hard. I immediately preferred the tone, art, and writing of it over the original game) So what I'm trying to say is...
CLEARLY THIS KICKSTARTER SHOULD HAVE WAY MORE THAN 200 PEOPLE INTO THIS SHIT, RIGHT???
I’m going to point out some weird things about @projecttrinity‘s upcoming visual novel “Women of Xal” in relation to this site.
1) It’s an upcoming Kickstarter bound otome game that very obviously is PoC / People of Color & WoC/ Women of Color centric. We’ve got a bi female lead with several romancable women. And it’s in a harsh matriarchal society ready to give some brutal parallels to our own. Being helmed by a very capable and snarky Black writer. The two programmers are women. The artists are women. The singers are women. One of the animators is a woman. AND THERE’S TANGIBLE QUALITY TO IT! I thought we’ve been asking for more projects like this for years now. But Tumblr has been the most quiet of the four sites it’s updating on??? (Youtube, Facebook, LemmSoftForums, Tumblr)
2) How are hateful anons finding this project before everyone else? Why are we letting Black creatives feel like the anon has a point about Tumblr not caring? Isn’t this site notorious for propping up content like this? Where are my feminists at?!
Like, I truly get it: Most of you will have only just heard of this. And Tumblr didn’t make it easy in the first place. Tags and timing are madly important. But so are reblogs and follows! You’re reading this now - there’s nothing truly stopping you from showing that anon the middle finger. For every time WE DON’T JUST ‘HEART’ A CREATIVE’S POST and reblog/follow their content, we prove hateful anons like this wrong. And every time we prove them wrong, we send an encouraging message to other minorities who want to share their passions with the world, but face that uphill battle.
And hey, the writer clearly has faith in this site still:
You can find out more about the project here.
Or, better yet, follow, and support the team here!
50,000 notes is insane. Y'all did it. We won. Game is out. This thread can die now. I'm sorry my younger self lashed out. I could have been more delicate and understanding. I have since learned and grown. Please use that 50k energy to back the sequel's Kickstarter instead;;

Anya is live and ready to show you everything. Watch her strip, dance, and perform exclusive shows just for you. Interact in real-time and make your fantasies come true.

Gods please stop giving my controversial post about the first Women of Xal attention. It's been half a decade and the second game's Kickstarter is out now. Go support it instead of engaging with outdated drama. Supporting it is a lot better than engaging in empty discourse.
Women of Xal II Kickstarter is Live!
Original Game Free! The revolution begins. Can Xjena survive rising violence and The Great Silence— Xal's final extinction event?
Let's return to the sky~
In short:
A Kickstarter for a previous visual novel (Also KS funded)
It's a dark political mystery with high fantasy elements
First game is free during this campaign
How much gorgeous art can we cram into a short demo? Yes
No AI Art or music
First game has a whole lot of gay. Second game will too
But not the demo. That's all plot.
Reblog to save a campaign? :'3
Alright, Tumblr. Don't make me go back to the old me that got 50k notes in reminding you that you DO actually want to support the projects you've been asking for. I've been SO well behaved that I deserve a kiss from a cute girl. As a treat.
