This person was telling how they held a seminar for people in a company and there was a task like, to test what hey remembered, and everyone sat in silence and alone until this person was like “uh... you guys realize you can ask for help and consult the material right?”

And like, it’s so dumb. When you’re in a work place, you can do these things. You can (and sometimes must) work with others. You can refer back to manuals and materials, you don’t have to memorize everything and work by yourself.

also certified welding inspectors are literally required to do everything open-book; their certification test is open book (and less than ten percent of people ever pass it on the first time!) because you are EXPECTED to look things up, you’re EXPECTED to know how to reference things, they consider it actively irresponsible to assume a person can know and remember the entirety of structural welding and engineering code and if you don’t use the book you’re actually in massive trouble because you are violating workplace safety standards and also like, the literal law
