At the end of the week, on the last night of his stay, Dylan and Travis dressed Tom up in a grass skirt with big, colorful leis, and brought him to the big annual luau that was held on the island. Everything looked and smelled incredible... The air was full of the rich, savory smell of seared pork and sweet pineapple marinade, and you couldn't walk ten feet in one direction without finding yourself in front of another huge spread. Particularly ubiquitous were the whole, roasted pigs that seemed to adorn nearly every table.
Tom got started right away, sampling everything in sight. It was all delectable... the best, most succulent barbecue he had ever tasted. The sides were tasty too, but the pork... the crispy, tender, juicy pork was broiled to absolute perfection. The boys brought him all around, encouraging him to sample everything. They introduced him to all sorts of guys staying here, at a different part of the resort, and it all began to strike him as odd... He felt like the star of the show! Everyone was staring, giving him drinks, and seemed so eager to meet him... Nobody else was dressed up like he was. By now he was too tipsy to think about it. Finally, Travis and Dylan took him to a great big bonfire where a crowd was gathered for a "photo op." Here they brought him several more tasty cuts to try...
But at some point, starting low and getting louder, the crowd began to chant.
"Hog! Roast! Hog! Roast! Hog!! Roast!!"
And before he knew it, Tom was being apprehended. Travis and another man grabbed his arms firmly as the big man grew confused as he intoxicatedly began to connect the dots. They led him to a nearby spot, where a large metal pole was being prepared... Tom realized that it was a spit. He begged them not to roast him, but his pleas fell on deaf ears... He was too drunk, too fat, and too weak to get away. The bonfire's tall flames reduced to embers as Thomas squealed.
In a couple of hours, the main course was finally ready, and Travis and Dylan took the celebratory first bite. The meat turned out even better than last year, and the year before that... Tender and succulent. They gave a short speech, gave a toast to the star hog, and then a feast began... another big success!
