Game of Thrones (2011-2019)
SELINA HAD DONE HER UTTER BEST TO MASK HER AMUSEMENT WITH A GRUNT, but just as she had known what makes her friend tick, so did he, undoubtedly, remember all of her quirks. "Yeah, well, you certainly use that to perfection." she snickered, returning the briefest of hugs with a light pout on her face - yet a tense knot in her heart had loosened. Oh, she so hated being on bad terms with her friends - heavens above knew she didn't have too many of them to take those bonds lightly, & she'd always been such a sociable creature. "You're still not entirely of the hook, my friend, you owe me big time. Having a dinner could appease me a bit, though." she added with a light grin upon her lips.
she could always be appeased with food.
"Oh, my muse is doing splendidly, which is a bit concerning given everything around is hanging by the thinnest thread known to faekind, but... alas... one cannot pick & choose when inspiration pops up. Better to have it in the worst of times, then not have it at all." Selina shrugged, though understood the sentiment. She, too, would've loved to sit this one out, but she had a gnawing sensation she won't have that choice. Day court may yet have need of her knowledge & skills in finding out proper scrolls to read from obscure information & very bad cataloguing skills the majority of faes seem to posses.
at least she was good at her job.
Selina stuck her tongue out at him at the laugh. "I'll advise the dead about the afterlife if I'm given a chance to see a ghost & yet you're still surprised at my attempts to hint you in how to successfully woo a fae - or a mortal, though that's widely frowned upon." she shrugged, the added. "I mean, sure. I'm almost used to it, but I don't want to get used to court skipping every now & then. We're supposed to have free will, right? Well, my will ain't free in this place."
as korain's friend it was hard not to catch onto the large effort that he always put in making himself right in their eyes, but he was not the only fae who could be blamed to want to appear better than he actually was. many did, so korain's confidence in himself or his blood relation to his high lady had little to do with it. " love me just as i am, no other option, because people don't change, " he whispered to her with a smile before releasing her from the hug he had forced her into, not that selina had been intent on pushing him away either. he definitely took that as a sign that they were going to be alright. " well, you don't have to say it twice. what are you in the mood for ? "
" we have been living in too much comfort it seems. frightening change usually brings sparks to the people in places they never would have guessed. at least you are the one actually gaining something out of all of this, " he snickered, wondering who else in what areas found all of this advantageous because surely it should be to some.
the young autumn court lord rolled his eyes at her silly gesture and let out a sigh, crossing his arms over his chest and straightening his stance. " a few months ago i would have definitely barked that i don't need it, and now i still don't, but the future for me is not as clear as it used to be, " he confessed, his thoughts going back to his ex betrothal, something he had been spending less energy to overthink recently. " as much as i love a constant in my life, i guess i'm used to not getting what i want, so it's easier for me emotionally than it is for you. "

the shock of the events that transpired had not yet fully left the high lord's system. he was so certain that after all that he's done before he sat on the high seat of dawn and there after, there would be little that would truly astound him to his core. a part of him has also hoped he would not be forced to take another's life again as he had with his father. it seemed fates had other plans, this time not just for saint, but for all rulers. in the end, they were all forced to do what some or all didn't wish to do, and he reminds himself it had to be done for the safety of dawn and of their realm. despite their lack of fondness for kabir, saint personally hadn't wished to see the boy hurt, nor be used in a pawn by the dark mother. while those threats now vanished, it was difficult for a high ruler to let their guard down and believe the worst was over.
after ensuring his family and his court were safe, but all still very much trapped in summer, althoug he didn't complain, he has no reason to. saint took a quick ride along, borrowing one of the mare's early in the morning before he's returning to the dawn quarters, the voice calling out pulling him from his thoughts as he turns to the source of the voice. "i did not think you'd be awake so early." it was only shortly past dawn, but then again, most hardly slept much at all since the past few weeks. removing his riding cloak, he walks in their direction.
from one point, the peregryn was proud that the high rulers had managed to deal with the king, it was better than she had hoped, but from another, she felt slightly disappointed how it all had been left. the gaean throne was vacant, which should have made her and others excited with anticipation, but it made the plans celeste and vivian had spoken about crack. the two of them had been craving to bring some destruction to the throne, discussing ideas, but they were not stupid. this situation perhaps could still be used to their advantage, but they had to be certain about all of it, and celeste was not yet certain she wanted to ditch her lotalty to dawn. she had a lot to contemplate.
celeste had entered the dawn court apartments just a few moments after him. " i have been taking advantage of the cooler mornings and the clear skies to move my wings for a lap or two, since sleep does not seem to be our friend these days, " she explained, ripping her gaze away to her hands as she started pulling off the soft white glowes she kept on her hands, during such hobby flights, that kept protected her from the elements. " did you manage to clear your head or shall i help you with that ? " her gaze found his once again with the question, giving him the freedom to share his thoughts, feelings if he wished, an offer of company. it's not like either of them would find it easy to catch the extra few hours of sleep before breakfast after the adrenaline of having been outside either way.
dawn paints a golden hue across the TRAINING YARDS, and ELMEHDI grits his teeth as he works through his morning regimen. // @n1ghtsongs @valtamcri @ethercvl @rosaxseer @liuyan @feathcrcd ( not a group thread )
controlled breaths resound softly across the space. the blade sings in his hands through the routine: a quick succession of jabs, then return to defensive position. over and over, elmehdi moves through the training with little fanfare. only discipline forged since his grandmother first place a sword in his hands.
when he finishes, he points the tip of the blade at the ground, the smallest kiss of metal to soil. slowly, he looks over his shoulder toward the gaze that kept on him for far longer than necessary.
"instead of watching, you might as well pick up a blade. unless you require my presence elsewhere?"
discipline was one of the things these two did have in common, and korain had always used it to his advantage to get better acquainted with elmehdi. ever since the ashways became high family, korain had always went out of his way to show that nothing had changed, they were not more important than other people, in spite of many who would disagree. he would have wanted to befriend the other male either way, meeting on the training grounds just as they had now.
" since when have you been this imperious so early in the morning ? " korain questioned, his brow slightly raised, a yawn following the words close by, as he leasurely started rotating his shoulders before he would even get to the warm up. " cannot wait to get your ass kicked ? let me just warm up first, " the autumn court lord continued talking, the confidence seeping from him, but he was only teasing.

@wcngxue
" you look like you need a drink. or two, " eldar spoke to xue with a polite smile the second his eyes locked with hers. his own problems had been swiped completely away with kabir out of the picture, but upon seeing the gaean fae, he realized it to be the complete opposite for her and others just like her. " would it be silly of me to ask how you're holding up ? " he questioned, but his eyes drifted towards the end of the hall, where if he remembered correctly was a little self service bar. " come on, i'll mix you something up, i've been told i'm great at guessing a drink of choice, but feel free to give me some hints. " he nudged his head towards the bar after speaking.
@arashway
" had you heard of the trident before, ara ? " korain asked suddenly, just when he realized that his cousin was still in the room, in his company. he had been very invested in the book that he was reading on summer court and it's relics, and hadn't even noticed that time had passed and the sun was starting to set. a content sigh escaped his lips at the realization that at least that remained to be a constant. a king had been slain and two dieties had went against each other, one of them having ended up locked up, he wondered where, but that would be the next thing he would ask of his cousin to research. she had not been filled in on his interest to join gaeul's inner circle. " i wonder why it's summer court, which holds such a powerful weapon, but at least now we know why we were led here. "
@vivianvaldemar
" it's a little bittersweet, isn't it ? " the peregryn had held her palm slightly up to start up the conversation the two of them had lined up for a while now. the dinner was coming to an end, but the two were surrounded by enough people at the table that celeste had kept her voice to a whisper as vivian sat right beside her, and despite the fact that everyone had an extraordinary good hearing. she had a feeling that everyone had a lot more to talk about than to listen in on them. " and i'm not speaking about wine. " she was in truth speaking of their last conversation and their plans, right before everything almost unravelled, the threats now diminished, and a chance for power left in the hands of prythian's magic, perhaps, as it should be, despite what celeste and vivian longed for.
@stxrfclls
she was was sitting there, all dolled up and pretty, and absolutely fuming. she had definitely attempted to convince herself it was because her only entertainment of the evening after dinner, an awfully boring conversation on none other than pearls, which was inspired by the bodice she was wearing and had purchased to adapt to the fashion of this court, had rudely rushed to leave her alone for the moment. she had scoffed at the realization that wearing such a pretty piece was exactly the reason of that superficial topic of conversation, it was new to her, after all, not being able to divert the converstion to something more serious. the truth was that lack of entertainment was not to blame for her unease since she had plenty of it, because her eyes like magnets kept drifting to another part of the crowded room, occupied by carden and some fae that had the most obnoxious laugh celeste's heard in her long life and some horrifying need to touch the peregryn every single time that laughter followed. celeste's full focus was on trying to ignore their presence and mute out their conversation, but the fae hearing made it hard to do so, and they were close enough that the flirting was just so loud it was hard to focus on anything else. when another set of laughter followed, carden appearing to enjoy himself enough to celeste, she emptied her glass of wine and let her eyes lock on carden before dropping down to the contact of their touch and following up to find the attention of the other fae as well. " i cannot even hear my own thoughts because of you two. " it would have come off as a cute teasing remark or a way to start up a conversation with the two of them if her eyes weren't dripping anger, so now, now it was simply an interruption.
WHO WASN'T DISSOCIATING AT ONE POINT IN THEIR LIVES? Even Selina - being as bubbly as she is - had succumbed to the sentiment once or twice in her lifetime. Recent times, to be entirely fair. The switch between courts had been both a welcome & unwelcome surprise to her. At least this switch was more dignified & at lest they could access the stuff left behind in other courts. For one, she'd hate to part with the glitter fountain pen she purchased in Dusk court. In that regard, she could let him off the hook - at least this one time.
supressing an eyeroll but giving out a heavy sigh, the archivist relented.
"Fine. Fine, fine, fine. I'll let it slide this time." she threw her hands up in the air, the innate dramatics giving way to diffuse the tension between them. "I hope you're at least feeling better now. As well as one can be in recent days. Who even thought there was whole court hidden in plain sight? & that their deity will prove to be such a thorn in our sides." she said in an attempt to move from the current topic. Everyone was still debating about Dusk & the king, anyway - no matter that she went out of the room to get out of the very same topic she was now entertaining with Korain.
talk about irony.
"It was less of an insult & more of a friendly advice." Selina snickered, though she doubted there was anything he could learn from reading mortal smut. She doubted anyone could learn from it - except maybe mortals. She should check if her books have gotten shipped over to the mortal lands. Now that would've been hilarious. "I admit it's difficult to relax here. The heat, I can live with. The mosquitoes, less so, but going to sleep without having the certainty of not waking up in yet another court, is probably enough to make anyone sleepless."
if anyone would have to understand why korain had built that little cabin in the middle of the woods back in autumn court to avoid everyone and act as though his life really was something else, it would have to be a writer, which selina was. that was one of the things the two could bond about. the autumn court lord could not hide the relief that came with selina's forgiveness, so he raised his arm to push her into a side hug. " when you signed up for this friendship you already knew what a mess i was, so you knew you'd have to forgive me my bullshit, " korain spoke with a smirk, glancing down at her before he released her from the hug. he definitely considered himself to be the worst of the friends, but he used to be better at hiding it with little lies, excessive courtesy and extremely expensive gifts.
" everything now is even more shit now, but i am better, ironically. i've just been avoiding all this shit, hoping it will go away, but now that i have come to the realization there's no chance, i have decided to stop sitting and waiting around when everything will get solved, " he shared a bit of a change in his view of things and also his motivations. he really did feel as though he had finally woken up. " and how are you ? i assume all of this is good for your muse, correct ? "
korain let out a loud laugh, making the birds frighten into flight from the windowsills somewhere high over their heads. he hadn't laughed like that in a long while and it was a good feeling. " you have not a single clue of my skills, so how could it possibly be advice ? let alone, friendly. " he shook his head in disapproval with a grin on his face. " the first time was mind blowing to me and i definitely had a mental breakdown or two, but now... it's like i'm numb to it, aren't you ? "

"good, i'm sure i'll see her soon." her younger sister was more than capable of caring for herself, gaeul just wanted to know that all of her siblings were okay. aerin's father had revealed some things to the both of them that she was sure there was a conversation to come soon from that. "sure, thank you." his next words bring a relieved smile to her face. she'd begged him to be a spy for her from nearly the moment that she had become the high lady. him approaching her with the wish to help was something far better than her getting him to reluctantly help from begging him to use the abilities that he was blessed with. "i would be more than happy to have your help korain." none of the courts specifically were her target, rather that like the other high liege's she was willing to put aside differences and work together towards dealing with the king. but she did have the idea that maybe one of the many fae that had been roped into working for the king could know where he had run off to. "i am aware that you are not fond of using your abilities in this way, but yes the autumn court will be better off with your assistance." she paused. "xavier and aerin's father both had been pulled in by the king. threatened to do dirty work for him. there's a large chance that he pulled fae in from all courts to aide in whatever he was trying to get up to. perhaps one of them knows where the king has run off to." she's not prepared to offer him a position in her inner circle at the very moment. however if he can prove himself to actually be capable she would find a spot for him.
korain poured her a new glass of water from the carafe that he kept on filling up throughout the day. this was definitely a new adjustment to staying at this court, keeping himself hydrated enough, especially when working out still took quite a big part of his day. he offered his sister the glass and joined to site, opposite of her. he watched gaeul reveal the reaction of his speech and was content that it was a positive one. some part of him had wondered if she would want to turn him down or make him pay for having turned her down so many times, it was in their autumn court nature to hold grudges and scheme, so her words were pleasant to hear. it gave him even more confidence that it was the right thing to do, even though this decision was not an easy one to make. he had resisted it for such a long time and for enough reasons, after all, but sitting and watching from the sidelines was getting tiring, when he felt that there was so much he could achieve. " i will do it for the right reasons. if it can help us, autumn court or any stuck here, that's enough reason for me to cross boundaries. we can't keep on being this defenseless against everything, especially when you are lacking a spymaster as well, " korain added, pointing directly to the position he was aiming for. he did not have a web of spies, but he would see to it if gaeul agreed to him officially taking a position in her inner circle. " if they did not know, what makes you think anyone else might ? you suspect he might have confided in someone ? it seems unlikely. "
her eyes follow his movements, subconsciously craning her neck to maintain his gaze, unwilling to let him move out of her line of vision. almost like cornered prey. there's nothing to her back and yet, she stays frozen there for a moment, transfixed by the weight of his gaze. "i..." for some strange reason, she hoped thought he might kiss her again. "i don't know what you mean," nor manages to say. her heart swells uncomfortably in her chest. painfully, even. like her tender heart is in his hands, sensitive to the touch alone. this proximity is too much for her to handle.
honoria retreats, taking the first step back, breaking their gaze. an unexpected reversal. "eldar, i'm trying hard not to be cross with you." her hands clasp together over her stomach before crossing in front of her chest protectively, keeping her soft insides from spilling. with her expression hidden to him, her brows furrow as her face contorts in a sort of anguish. because the numbers don't balance. his words imply that he wants her, but he'd also wanted the fae he'd been with that night, no? and every fae she'd seen on his arm before? "i can handle a lot of things, but i'm more tender than i let on. this... teasing..." her words trail off, unsure of how to handle the gravity of their feelings. she'd refused his advances because she'd thought it to be a flirtatious humour between friends. the kiss ruined the illusion of teasing, pulling the curtain down on the honesty. "i don't know what serious and what isn't with you."
she had been right, he truly had not wanted to talk that night, the fae that honoria had found, waiting in his room, was the clear evidence of it, but perhaps he should have worded his feelings about it to her instead of acting on a completely other impulse and forcing her into that heated kiss he could not stop thinking about. " should i have asked for your permission before i kissed you ? " something he can't remember if he's ever done, but with his way of thinking, perhaps, that's something that would make him a better communicator. he will take note for the next time.
that little step away stung, but he remained in his place and he did not let it show, focusing on preparing to hear anything from her. that kiss and that slap had made him blind with adrenaline that night, and he was unsure if he had even managed to get over that high yet, her proximity had started a new wave of feelings he had long forgotten. he swallowed and watched honoria gather herself, now further away from him, his own mind already making predictions of what her angle on turning him down would be, because preparing for the worst would have to be the easiest way to plaster a smile on his face and act like it did not bother him at all. " and you are certain of what you want ? " he questioned, his eyes roaming around her face, instead of truly responding to what she was saying. these we uncharted waters. the two of them had grown together to tease each other endlessly in a platonic sort of way, but eldar had always known that if he would see any interest, coming from her, he would not hesitate to blur that line between friendship and something more. he just hadn't expected her to be scared of it. " nor, you can just ask me. "
"oh?" she hums, tickled by his words. "you love me? alright, i get the hint. you must truly be annoyed that i've interrupted." helene leans into her hip as she crosses her arms, pausing in her flouncy entrance. her eyes scan her brother's features, alway having been skilled at understanding people. feeling was her strong suit. he did look annoyed with her, but was raised well-enough that he didn't dare shoo away his older sister. teasing, she says, "if i wanted to hide from our sister, i'd hardly hide in the bedchambers directly next to her. so, while i am not yet hiding, i shall be soon!" her laughter chimes, carefully light so that her annoyance does not bleed through. "i am to change my attire and perhaps i will swim down to their underwater temple!" sarcasm, considering her rudimentary swimming skills. "i should be so lucky if i am not found until this evening."
" as always, just saying what you want to hear. the less things you are displeased about, the less i have to hear of it, " he explained, his hands wide for a second to emphasize his reasoning, before he pulled a smile on his lips. she knew him too well, he liked to forget it at times. life of a brother of two very high maintenance autumn court high faeries was not the easiest, especially, when one of them was also their high lady. he truly did not envy those who would be their life partners. " hiding, what for ? there's hope she might be too busy to go looking for you either way. i, for one, have been wanting to speak to her, but have not caught her in a good moment. " korain wanted to confide in her about what he would propose to gaeul, but he was hesitant, overthinking about the best way to bring that up to them as well. " great idea, perhaps an attractive merman will have the opportunity to rescue you, " korain joked.
“money never sleeps,” bea says wryly, accepting the slip. "it often moves even faster at night." in the seediness of a brothel, or a big loss at the tables, or even a big win on the wheel. “i do my best to keep up.” an authoritarian sort of stiffness took over her in celeste’s presence, a possession by her military training deep within her muscles. it contrasts with her gentlest of dreams, where bea finds herself floating with her sisterhood amongst the clouds once more. despite her awkwardness around the commander, bea always imagines celeste there too, her wearing such a sterness to her face even in fantasy. “next time another legionary is in the market for a new career, one ought to look into becoming a parcheminier. by the looks of it," she wraps her knuckles against the hefty line item, "they’re making good money these days.” "
" don't tell me you're working over time, money might not sleep, but i'm sure the ledgers can, " celeste responded, her eyes dropping to the piece of parchment that had travelled between their hands, one corner of her mouth curling up slightly. " and so can those scribbling essays in form of letters to others in other courts. " her displease was not born of the demand that she was just passing onto beatriz, but perhaps jealousy. there was no one she craved to speak to who was not here. there was not a lot of people she actually wanted to talk to in general. where beatriz dreamt of a sisterhood of peregryns, celeste simply did not have a close enough relationship with any of her sisters and brothers left in dawn court to even write to them. " if there's enough materials to supply the demand, that is, but all that seems to depend on how long we will remain here. "
"yes, though my reasons have little to do with my court per se - it's who, i and my eldest brother are missing." he's certain that ced is considering the idea of sending for his children, and in truth, declan wanted that to occur rather quickly. how good of an idea that is was debatable but in the end, the younger day lord believes they were better off closer to them than away. he sets his drink for a moment, shifting his gaze from the view to the night lord, "it's my nieces and nephews, they've not been away from their family, particular their father nor their favorite uncle , if i do so say myself, " a cheeky grin appearing before he continues, "if we're to be here for some time i'd like them here with us." declan speaks precisely as a proud uncle of the little ones, and he knows they'd enjoy themselves here. "i invite you to come visit day for a time, when all this is over. as for the mermaids, we will join them without a doubt. i intend to swim in every bit of water we find here, sea or pools." he's considering the other's words, of what being outside of night meant to eldar. familiar enough of his friend that being in his home didn't offer him all the freedom being outside of it does. the day lord also suspected it has more to do with that fact that the other feels he never fits in fully. dec knew that he was one of the rare exceptions in a high family, not aster by blood which excludes him from ever being the one responsible for his court, his father had always given them all sorts of freedom. perhaps it was why he felt no deep desire to be away from his home for long. "we'll have more than a few days in this court. i agree in regards to your words about being in this court, there's no sense of urgency here i suppose." he cant speak for the other seasonal courts as he's never been, but life here did not seem to move at a quicker pace. he'd also relatively say that of his own court. "what else is there to do while we remain captive? we do what we can for our families, while making the best of our circumstances. perhaps this will be our last stop, if our high rulers find a way to end this once for all."
" it's understandable for family to stick together. " eldar could consider himself lucky that his whole family was here, for him, the only thing that he did miss was a place and all the people who lived there and the atmosphere, but ironically, when he had the freedom to go where he wished, he spent little time home. it was the freedom that he could go there when he wanted that seemed so precious to him. " it is a shame to be apart, i'd assume they're not happy about it either. and who even knows how long this whole thing will go on ? " the night lord wondered out loud. though he rarely thought of children since neither him, nor his siblings had any children, he assumed it would be a different kind of pain to be away from the children in their family and miss some parts in their life and childhood. " oh, you'll regret inviting me because i will definitely take you up on that invitation. what do you reckon is the best thing of your court ? " eldar smirked and took a sip of his drink. day was one of the courts that he was not very familiar with, though he had been there a lot times passing through. " every bit ? what about the fountains ? " there was a challenging grin on his face, having found, perhaps an exception to declan's statement. " let's hope so, " he agreed, lying to the other and himself as well, for the day. in truth, there would be a day and perhaps another day, and perhaps a few days or more than that until the king made his appearance once again. he had not confided in declan about his inner stresses, but it was only because he needed this one day. " you know, it's just that i've always known i could do or offer more for my court but i've always chosen not to, for my own reasons. i'm just wondering if now's the time when i do not get to have that choice anymore. "

there were far too many days that saint envies the confidence the commander has. it was not that the high lord of dawn lacked any, as he simply could not in his role or allow an outsider believe otherwise. yet, after all the events, and his own actions that have led him in his current position, it was difficult to overreach no matter how he wished he could. or simply, some moments he's afraid his arrogance would steer him wrong. cautious and careful kept the high lord of dawn in line, and with their current predicament, perhaps a possibility of their extinction looming over them, saint could not afford a slip up. "nor i. i had hoped we'd all be returned to our respective courts." truly, saint almost expected, feared, another hauling to an unknown location. "nonetheless, it's a relief to be returned to prythian." the lord suspect they would not be returning home anytime soon, or at least not with their own court. there's faint lighthearted smile curving his lips at celeste's remark of him, one always appreciated from her. "now, more than ever i cannot be anything else other than in one piece." one of many reasons he's careful. his peers about them before catching sight of the adriata palace not too far ahead from the shores they stood by. "let us make our way there and then we reconvene with the others and see what's to be done."
it would be the greatest compliment for celeste if she came to discover that her high lord envied her at times, but it was only the fruits of her own energy, used up for forging the appearance of the commander that she wanted to be. saint could only see this one part of her that she showed to the world, and she had no doubt that he would not hold the same opinions of her and feel the same way about her if more was exposed. it was very likely she wouldn't be keeping a position in his court. at times she wondered if keeping her high lord at arm's length would end up with the same unlikeable result, seeing how close he was with others, so maybe it was just her being paranoid. " somehow one of the most predictable things happened, perhaps, that should give us an idea of what is about to happen next, " celeste added, wondering what could be the next predictable thing. she did not like to hope though. she was glad to have said something that at least lightened up his mood, though it was never easy for her to come up with any flattery. " i have heard this court to be very relaxing, perhaps you might find some moment of peace here to regain your strength. " she could not think of better place to regain hers than their court though. " that sounds like a plan. "
carden rolls his eyes, dramatically at that, ❝ it's just a coat, celeste. ❞ but he doesn't really push more than that, her dignity is likely far more important than the desire not to overheat. carden sighs, and continues to ensure his wings move to create a slight breeze about them. nobody needed an overheated and angry dawn commander. he huffs a laugh at the next demand from the other, but does not obey in truth. he does glance about, but his eyes land right back on the bright haired fae full of anger before him. ❝ so shall i leave you as well and take the breeze with me ? ❞ questions he, cocky, playful and ever the tease despite the displeasure of their situation. carden is just better at pretending, at remaining surface level. most thought it was due to an inability to be anything but. he wondered if celeste was beginning to figure out that wasn't so true. and in his refusal to obey her ? to look away and anywhere but the commander ? carden was well aware of her lingering gaze on his own frame, shirt unbuttoned to allow more of a breeze onto his sweat glistening skin. gods, he wished he could have been dropped here in his sleep wear and not what he'd dressed in for the day. a laugh huffs when celeste looks away, but carden doesn't say a word – he behaves. for now. and then she asks something he knew she wouldn't be able to stop herself from doing. as much as celeste tried to pretend she didn't care for carden, that she wanted nothing to do with him – she seemed incapable of not digging into the deeper parts of himself he hid away. he also seemed incapable of brushing off her questions. did he desire for her to see deeper ? or was he just interested in throwing her off with honesty ? there was no telling. ❝ winter. ❞ he says so softly it's almost like the breeze from his winds than his actual voice. his lips part to ask if she needs help, but carden stops, she'd say no anyway.
celeste had not exactly been ready for travel when it had all happened and her coat had already told as much, but she had wanted to hide the fact that she was not exactly in her everyday wear underneath it. " does it not occur to you that perhaps not everyone is comfortable with so much exposure ? " it wasn't just her own preference of modest wear, undressing for her in general felt intimate, but she assumed that he was probably used to seeing such thing. the heat was winning over her spite though, as she let out a whimper and finally managed to unfasten the buttons of her coat. it was just a coat for him, but for her it was her comfort zone, the protection of her image. she got herself out of the piece of clothing and held it over her arm, pressing her eyes closed for a second, to cherish the cooler feeling and the breeze, making her slip dress cling to her skin, the breeze that was probably coming from carden himself. she opened her eyes only at the question, they settled right on the other peregryn's hues, like magnets they were pulled to them. " no, " she responded before she could think and then blinked. gods, she shouldn't have been that direct. " you're good at doing that. " her forced explanation was making none of it better for her, instead, she had actually complimented him, and her eyes, they had once again betrayed her and dropped to his body, and just when she had wanted to look up at his eyes, they had found his lips instead, and she was still overheating, despite the absence of the coat. she was flustered in his close proximity, and he was still watching her too, despite her request. she was so screwed. carden's answer allowed her a second of rest as she took a deep breath to focus on what they were even talking about and not the scent of him mixed with the salty sea and not the glowy bright skin, appearing to look so soft, that her fingers wanted to see for themselves. she took a quick breath and swallowed. " i've never been. tell me what it's like. " it was more of a question than a request, but celeste has been so used to commanding that she's not used to simply asking someone to share something if they wished. perhaps, carden did not wish to share anything about a court he disliked the most, that would be understandable as well, but the white winged fae had a feeling there was a reason he had revealed that to her in the first place, she had yet to find out what it was.
