and like it’s not even ENTIRELY about the fact that it beat out brokeback mountain (even though it is definitely about that) it’s just genuinely a bad movie. like I absolutely did not go into this unbiased I’m more than willing to be transparent about that but even if I had I think I would’ve still thought it was bad. I don’t honestly mind a movie being more heavyhanded in parts as long as there are interesting and nuanced things going on in the rest of it but in this film that’s literally all there is. it’s the most blatant surface level depiction of racism that’s clearly trying to be for adults based on the language and sexual content but most children’s movies trust their audience more.
