     He keeps wishing that he hadn’t told her the truth, that he could have just lied and kept it to himself instead. But he wasn’t trapped, the thought of that hadn’t crossed his mind even once since they found out at the hospital. Maybe this wasn’t what he’d been thinking his future was going to look like, but he wasn’t displeased with it. She wanted to be a mom, they just hadn’t been together long enough for that conversation to come up and the truth would have come out eventually. 

     “I don’t– Grace I’ve already told you I’m not angry or blaming you for it.” He sighs and sits down next to her, reaching one hand out. “If you need some more time to think through it that’s okay, I’ll support whatever decision you want to take. You’re not trapping me, okay? I love you, I love you so much and I want to do this with you.” He’d just have to keep working harder to not fall back into old habits, and take therapy far more seriously this time around. 

                all  her  life  all  she’s  ever  wanted  is  a  family .  one  of  her  own  that  she  didn’t  have  to  worry  about  giving  her  away .  she’s  been  given  away  so  much ,  forgotten ,  tossed  aside ...  she  needs  to  know  what  it’s  like  to  be  wanted  enough  to  be  kept .  and  in  the  moment  she  found  out  she  was  pregnant ?  a  rush  of  joy  at  the  thought  of  having  someone  who  would  love  her  unconditionally .  because  isn’t  that  what  being  a  mom  meant ?  at  least ...  being  a  good  mom ?  she  had  to  admit ,  though ,  that  the  last  thing  she’d  expected  was  to  actually  be  a  mom .  especially  after  the  bullshit  that  was  the  le  domas  dominion  or  whatever  the  fuck  they’d  wanted  to  call  themselves .  she’d  thought  that  it  wasn’t  in  her  cards ...  that  the  universe  had  been  telling  her  she  didn’t  have  what  it  took .  but  now ?  well ...  now  it  feels  like  she’s  trapping  the  one  person  who’s  made  her  feel  alive .

                she’s  been  sitting  on  the  floor  in  the  living  room ,  back  pressed  to  the  couch ,  and  eyes  focused  on  the  ash  tray  on  the  coffee  table  with  an  unlit  cigarette  pressed  between  shaking  fingers  ever  since  they’d  gotten  back  from  the  hospital .  she  wants  to  light  it ,  wants  to  press  it  between  her  lips  and  take  a  long  drag  to  ease  some  of  the  anxiety  coursing  through  her  veins .  but  she  can’t .  she’s  tried  quitting  cold  turkey  a  hundred  times  before  but  she  never  succeeded  and  this  time ?  well  fuck ...  she  doesn’t  have  much  of  a  choice  does  she ?

i’m  not  going  to  be  able  to  do  anything  before  surgery .  i  have  surgery  tuesday  and  will  be  checking  in  off  and  on  depending  on  how  i’m  feeling .

grace le domas  ,   thank you for staying.  it just gets so lonely at night sometimes.

                    ‘ you don’t have to thank me. and all you ever have to do is ask, ’ daniel busies his hands with the sheets and the blankets, spreading them across grace’s sofa with precision, focusing on smoothing the creases and tucking the sides into the cushions. next comes the pillowcase, and then he’s throwing the pillow down, finished with his makeshift bed. eyes move to grace then, daniel’s hands on his hips, sleeves unbuttoned and rolled up to his elbows. what they had been through was long passed, and he understood why she’d want distance from the last remaining le domas. the name itself lingered as a painful memory, but he’s glad she called. ‘ besides, i owe you plenty of favors. i’m happy to stay whenever you need, ’     @fcktherich.
