“well…. now i need to know everything.” she paused. “on a different note, have you ever thought on how weird our relationship is?”

A soft chuckle left Leo’s lips as Peter spoke, a shrug soon following. He had a point. Leonardo didn’t let Peter say that twice as he sprinted to the port as fast as possible. Of course, he didn’t win. How could he win from a merman? But it was fun to try. The pirate had a massive grin on his face as he reached the port where Peter was waiting on him. Leo knew exactly what his friend meant with ‘you owe me,’ and he would’ve happily given the merman a kiss if he wasn’t currently a little out of breath, but before he could say or do anything, Peter spoke again. His facial expression quickly turned into a defeated one, but it didn’t take long as he faked a smile when Peter turned his head back to face him. It was too hypocritical to ask for a kiss anyway. He told his friend a few times that they weren’t a thing, and he shouldn’t expect to continue being all kissy after those words. Didn’t make it less painful, but it was all his own fault for not owning up to his feelings or do anything with it. “Hi,” The pirate said softly before sitting down next to the merman. “It definitely had been a while. How’s… life?” The boy asked awkwardly before scratching the back of his neck, a thing he did whenever he got nervous.

“the fae, really? are we not all wonderful and amazing?” ophelia asked, trying to goad him. she was sure there were plenty of fae that fell into the realm of horribleness, ones that abused their power or were just horrible people in general, but to hear that peter were wary of them all made her a bit sad. and slightly offended even if it was not directed at her. “well find me a sweet drink and i’ll lend you my ears. you’ve knocked over a rock and opened a path that I need to follow.”

‘uh, no. you are. loads are far from it.’ he gave her a tight smile, knowing how it must’ve sounded. it was the same way she was wary of other species, her was wary of hers. they both had their reasons, it wasn’t his place to say that his reason was explained and justified. ‘i’ll fetch a sweet drink, you find us a place to sit?’ he offered before ducking away towards the bar, coins clinking together in his hands as he discussed with the bartender what the sweetest tasting drink would be. after waiting for the concoction, he slid the money over and walked back to find ophelia with two drinks and a smile. ‘as every horror story starts, there was once a boy...’ 

“Crack my back? No, no,” she said, hand raised, “I think the only thing that will ever touch my back is my bed”

“how is it not active? you have loads of stuff at your disposal i’d imagine. and you’re swimming but certainly you could dance? don’t understand that. there’s nothing wrong with liking being on land. funnily enough, i think i’d… rather be in your shoes. or is it fins?” he chuckled and shrugged. “i think the ocean’s quite pretty and… it is so far away from this place, too.” he cringed at the idea of being beheaded. it was definitely one of his worst fears. “don’t want that. well that’s a shame. already tainting my imagination. fuck off.” he laughed and sighed heavily, rolling his eyes. “vampires and werewolves have hated each other for ages. i think they can kill us? i don’t know if it’s true but i don’t care to find out. they also smell bad. so. okay, they only smell bad when it rains, you know? i’m not fond of them because i may, ah… be a bit afraid of them, and… i’m alive so clearly i’m doing something right by steering clear of them. that’s really it. but humans… i’m not afraid of them. i just hate them. seriously, i despise them more than werewolves. and i have my own reasons for that. and you know there’s the whole werewolves defending humans thing—of course werewolves annoy me. humans more so. besides, okay, every other species thinks we’re shit anyway so i don’t even feel bad.” zach could rant on and on if he wanted but even if they were his opinions, he was annoying himself. but zach was interested about the oceans. “i’m intrigued. what bad is there? what good? tell me stories.”

‘no, no, oh silly. i’m not actively involved in the community! i’m active enough. i don’t have any muscle and once a dolphin beat me up, but i’m not out of shape. rectangle is a shape. but i’d still dance with you.’ peter giggled at the other’s misunderstanding of the situation, shrugging at him because he didn’t know any better what it would be. ‘fins? okay, but... yes, and no. the ocean is gorgeous and vast. but so is earth. how much of the land have you seen? have you seen the floating islands of fae? the ruins? the sunflower fields? it’s the same thing as the ocean, no, i haven’t seen all of it but it’s not like i can just get up and swim off wherever i want to. it’s boring, our lives are the same. 

“Why did I know you were,” she laughed, “You have a face that screams ‘I want to help everyone’ and it’s adorable” she grinned. “And I see you keep looking over, I’m fine, Peter” she reassured him. “My spine might be slightly curved but it’ll go back eventually”

Serafina couldn’t help but beam from ear to ear when an undeniably excited young gentleman stopped by the front of her stall; enthusiasm from a customer made the entire reading that much better, and she was beyond pleased when he reassured her that he had no issue providing payment for the full service. She read tarot cards, palms, and tea leaves because she loved it, of course, but…extra money that she could use to add to her mama’s savings? That wasn’t something she could easily overlook. “You got it!” she chirped happily, all but bouncing on the balls of her feet as she went about preparing a fresh cup of tea. “We’ll start with the cards, and then your palms, and last but not least - tea leaves. By the end of it all, I promise you’ll feel much more…enlightened,” she said with a bright grin, and she used her free hand to gesture towards the stool where he could sit. “Have a seat, tell me your name, and…one fun fact about yourself! Anything at all, and I’ll do my best not to send you away with thoughts of imminent death. Oh, and I’m Serafina!”

Alex wanted to tell the boy to mind his step and not be so fucking clumsy, but he bit his tongue. He didn’t shy away from confrontation–not in the slightest–but it was best for Alex to assess a situation before choosing how to handle it. Especially in lieu of the war raging upon them; there was no telling who was a spy for who, who was a nobleman’s son and who was a street rat.

He seemed out of sorts here, this stranger, and Alex couldn’t help but wonder where he came from. He certainly didn’t belong in the fisherman’s village, by the looks of it. He cocked his head at the smile administered to him by the other; was the boy quite alright in the head?

“Buy me a drink? You’re scolding me like a child when you can’t be, what? More than fifteen, at the most? Does your mother know you’re out by yourself?”

peter on the other hand, absolutely hated confrontation and would do just about anything to avoid it. he didn’t like fights, frankly he wasn’t even strong enough to beat anyone. so it was get beaten, or somehow talk his way out of it. he get his gaze steady at the man in front of him, trying to read him properly. when he couldn’t get a real read, he figured human. pirate, maybe.

humans were ambiguous, either they were loving or rebelling. peter adored the kind but something told him this wasn’t a friendship worth fighting for. peter scrunched his brows together and looked down at himself, wondering if he really did look that fucking young. did he?
