can we have tv dramas set in college please. fucking nothing happens in hs man. now im in college and my friend got chased by feral hogs a week ago in the woods and its like the 5th craziest thing to happen this week
if anyone is wondering how this happened:
we told her not to go in hog territory at night
she went anyway cause she wanted to find an abandoned mine
she did not find an abandoned mine she found hogs because she went in hog territory at night
its what she likes to do
God forbid women do anything
Rosa Chacel, from a diary entry featured in Diario, originally published in 1993
i think youre so real and valid to not want minors following you (dw im over 18) but coquette/faunlet was created by high schoolers you know? in the 2010s the average age was 15-17. we cant really tell minors they shouldnt be in a subculture they created, the rest of us just continued to age with it but it was still made by teenage girls
I know that, I was just coming out of my teens when it was created. This is gonna be long because I have a very very hard time explaining myself, and tumblr has changed SO SO MUCH this past decade, people get offended at the smallest thing and the antis will have a field day if they think I'm saying one thing when I'm not, so please bear with me.
"we cant really tell minors they shouldnt be in a subculture they created, the rest of us just continued to age with it but it was still made by teenage girls" Who aren't teens anymore, though. They are almost 30 if not full in their early 30's. And even when I was fresh out of my teens I saw older people into the aesthetic because they liked the Lolita book. Others got into it to try and heal trauma from things that happened to them when they were minors, like myself. It wasn't a paradise, and it wasn't really all that safe, either... so you can guess how that went for the first years of it.
Do you get where I'm going?
It's not like liminal spaces, or cottagecore, or y2kcore, etc etc. Those aesthetics were brought forth from nostalgia, and kids discovering what millennials wore as fashion, from revivals, etc etc.
This aesthetic was born from high schoolers 16 YEARS AGO*, based on a book that wasn't for minors... Because, YES, many romanticised said book. It hurts to say it, but one has to say it. You could see blogs here all over with quotes from the book, girls dressing dolls like what Lolita should've been originally, it got so bad to the point where you could find little BDSM cages and pink cuffs and that one rabbit with the long long ears in Pinterest boards catered to "Nymphette", as it was called back then, romanticising who-kno-what. It got so out of hand I suspect it was one of the reasons for the push to block the "Lolita" tag in there. I mean you can still find a bunch of those pictures of other stuff similar, but you can't search for it with the tags.
On IG there was a creator who was also an adult content creator and she tagged her stuff as "coquette" and "nymphette" before the push for change happened. She even had to tag stuff as "don't romanticise the book", because people were going WILD about it. Especially creeps. (I won't go into how contradictory that seems to me, but... yeah, just know that particular case was... weird to me.)
There's a REASON Lana del Rey was our Queen for such a long time. You just gotta read her lyrics really well. She even has a song called "Lolita". We've all grown up, though, and we understand where we came from and why. The teens who created it aren't teens anymore. We see the contradictions and the weirdness of it all.
Those who came in after who are teens, like you, didn't create the aesthetic and as such don't understand it's origins. You've seen a more or less cleaned up version of it without the soft white underbelly.
You're entitled to be a part of it, like nobody can gatekeep it. It would be stupid to gatekeep it, that's not the issue, and maybe I'm not good at explaining it. So let me try again:
The issue is that this aesthetic comes from a very controversial background, made by teens who didn't know better and because of that put themselves in sticky situations because they didn't know better, but now have since then grown up, even many have left it in part because of it's history. The minors who come into this don't see that, they weren't there to experience it, and they lack the experience to understand why this aesthetic is so controversial, what happened during its beginnings, and how much of a risk it was to be in it... they simply see cute clothes and dive into it, then many find out the history and run away with it without stopping to think about the implications.
Again, the teens that created it aren't teens anymore, and nobody gatekept the aesthetic from them. Nobody is gatekeeping it from the minors right now either, I'm just voicing my concern for them to be in it because of what I already explained.
If they research and are responsible about it, good for them, they will avoid all the hairy situations that happened. Keeping safe, especially now more than ever, is essential. and honestly researching and being responsible in such an aesthetic makes it easier for you to enjoy it. I had to do a ton of research into the history, both because of my past trauma with being groomed and my current healing from that trauma. But being responsible like that made sure that I could enjoy it even now that I'm well out of the age brackett. It even helped me heal so much of what happened to me without romanticising it.
But if not...? If they don't do that? If they stay stuck at the romanticising stage? What then...? And it's that "what then" that I don't wanna be involved in. I'm not their parent, I'm not their guardian, I have my own stuff I need to take care of, and I wanna enjoy this aesthetic in peace.
Like, I follow the phrase "you do you". I worry about them, sure, but I don't wanna have to do anything with them for that reason. *I edited this because I for some reason did my maths wrong. sorry!
I'm sorry, I didn't think I'd have to say this but apparently I do:
IF YOU'RE A MINOR, PLEASE DO NOT FOLLOW ME.
I'm not comfortable with minors interacting with me nor my sideblog. It's just a boundary of mine.
Faunlet and Coquette come from a very... controversial background, as faunlet and coquette literally come from the book Lolita. Coquette was changed from Nymphette to try and pull away from the book, but both aesthetics literally originated from the book and and I don't think it should be used by minors because I don't think they have enough experience to understand the implications of the background. I also plan to share some "jojifuku" and we all know how controversial that one is as well because a handful decided to be idiots about the aesthetic, so they ruined it for a lot of people. All this can lead to misunderstandings. So yeah, I want to save myself all the grief.
And on the "antis" part... I like freedom of speech, I can differentiate fiction from reality, and I hate the thought police. I hate book romanticizers just as much, but I can't stop them... I don't have that right I just have the right to stop them from interacting with me... same with the "antis". So, please, if you're an anti... scaddle away and block me. I'll never ship HH with Lolita... but I can't have a say in what others do in their heads, and I don't want others thinking they have a say in what I do in my own. So... yeah. Let's keep the peace.
