With all the groundwork they show has laid laid, I think we (the audience) can all guess that Kieu My really did need to double-check Fatou’s work. However, she could also see that Fatou felt a certain type of way when she said she would go over it again - then quickly backtracked and felt super awkward

If Kieu My doesn’t double-check the work, then they’ll get a lower grade cause the numbers will be off. So that could,,, lead to Kieu My distancing herself because she “let” love distract her from her work and ultimately her goal (as she talked about in the museum) or she might,,, be Too Nice about it and that could lead to Fatou feeling like she’s being patronized (like what happened with her parents). If Kieu My does double-check the work, it seems likely it would happen behind Fatou’s back which again,,, could lead to Fatou feeling like she’s being patronized
