                                      He did not know her well if he   believed   she would allow him to simply stand back, brush off the moment, and   ignore   the tenderness they shared. Something she had yearned for, whether she admitted it to herself or not. Almost   CONFUSED   at his reaction, taking a second for offence and   another   to analyse. Upon this, she notices his shy body language, certain his cheeks may be that of a deeper hue. She smiles soft as she closes the space between them again. He wasn’t escaping   that   easily. Index and middle finger walk up the fabric of his chest until she regains his gaze. Mako staring deep, emerald falling even deeper as she looks at him with soft sincerity. 

A pause. And she is moving closer    —-   closer   still. Their lips to meet once again. Her kisses are soft, gentle, but doesn’t give him chance to retreat. One soft kiss follows with another, and another, hoping he may lean and melt into the embrace. Taking a chance, but certain he   too   feels the passion between them, an unspoken romance that they shared. But she is bold, and she does not wait for a man to make the move, she in charge of what she wants. Right now? What she desires is HIM.

       cloud’s eyes trail down to meet her gaze, watching intently as she takes steps closer to him until she’s lingering far too closely in his personal space for his liking. a soft sigh sounds from the back of his throat, lips part to protest her actions, but he can’t. aerith’s made it impossibly hard for him to stand his ground with her, and part of him doesn’t seem to want to. he wants to give in to her, let her take the ropes and guide him. his tongue pokes out to wet his bottom lip, brows furrowed as her fingertips trail up his chest.

the florist  giggles  ,  throwing her arms around his shoulders.  aerith lets her arms settle around cloud with a light grin  ,  presenting him with a flower.  she doesn’t wait for long before tucking it behind his ear with more of that same  ,  bubbling  laughter. 

‘ a little birdie told me it might be your birthday. ’

       there’s almost no time to respond as his gaze flickers to meet her own, cheeks burning hot as they sprout patches of tinted pink shades along pale skin. a defeated sigh sounds from his chest when she places the flower behind his ear, hands coming up to rest along his hips. ❛ the little birdie might be right, ❜ he teases, small grin settling on his lips. ❛ care to tell me who told ? ❜

       there’s a haziness that washes over him, tired eyes fluttering open at the sound of his boyfriend’s voice. cloud had never enjoyed celebrating his birthday, though his mother would always insist on it when he was younger. ever since he’d lost her, his birthday wasn’t the same. a day that he struggled the most internally and was forced to be brave for everyone around them, to convince them he was happy and there wasn’t an overwhelming amount of grief tied to the dreaded day. one hand comes up to thread through his hair before both palms meet either side of the sheets and he pushes himself up only slightly.

        though he wants to remain weary, there’s a subtle gleam of innocence that prompto hasn’t quite lost yet. he’d figured this life would’ve stolen every last bit of it from the boy’s face; but despite their strifes, prompto had remained gleeful. cloud was sure if angels were just walking around on their world, prompto was definitely one of them. so, when he hears the words that fall from his lips, he can only do one thing: oblige to his demands. he surrenders control of their situation and nods his head in signal of his unspoken defeat.

          truthfully, all he’d wanted to do was finish the task at hand. but prompto seemed to have plans of his own, and while cloud does mind; he won’t show it. the merc adjusts his sword against his back and trails behind his friend, if he were in the position to even call him that. he was still adjusting to life on the road with the others, but the gunman was the first to really warm up to him and make it a big deal to include him in ... just about everything. even things he’d wished to have been excluded from.

“I can’t take it anymore!” [ why not ]

       there’s barely any time for him to respond to the other’s words, brows furrowed until he finally understands. his back hits the wall with ease, shoulders pinned by leslie’s hands and he could stop him if he wanted to. easily. but he doesn’t. cloud’s tongue pokes out to wet his bottom lip and he finds himself biting back a shit eating grin that threatens to etch itself to his lips. ❛ you gonna do something about ? ❜ the merc teases, mako filled eyes flickering from leslie’s own and down to his lips. the silver haired man is so close that he can practically feel his breath against his skin. it causes goosebumps to rise along his arms, hands hesitate at his sides because he wants to grab leslie and kiss him.

Confused, she looked at the red on her hands, as if the injury had crept up on her, or more, the severity had snuck up. Yet, he was kind. Quiet, but kind. His hand wrapped around hers, think napkin paper soaked up the blood of her hand. Jessie found herself stunned, she hadn’t expected it. It wasn’t that she thought him heartless, or that he didn’t care, no he seemed to care in his own way about people, the cold and stoic thing was a persona, a mask for the world to see.

She had her own too.

“I don’t know.” She answered, looking down at her side, the slow trickle of red was starting to flow down her side, slow accumulation of red soaked up by cotton. Swallowed the lump in her throat as fear crawled up her spine.

It would be fine.

“I thought it was just a scratch.” Jessie continued, thinking back to the moment it had happened. “it didn’t hurt…well it did but, I thought he had punched me.” Funny, how you registered pain so oddly. Yet, her gaze followed his, to the rest of the crew sat having fun, laughing, giggling, telling jokes and getting drunk.

“If I just…slip away,” she could go out the back, go home, deal with whatever this was. Lay down, rest and deal with how damn tired she felt. “Will you cover for me?” She didn’t want to worry anyone. “I…don’t want to bring the mood down….you get me?”

       cloud wasn’t some first class asshole like many seemed to believe he was. he was capable of showing emotion, being compassionate. though his words would fail him, his actions surely wouldn’t. regardless of if he’d admit it to the girl or not, he cared for her. he was hired to protect them -- that was his job, wasn’t it ? and part of him felt like he’d failed her by letting her get injured. the merc believes her when she tells him that she’d thought it was just a scratch -- he’d been there, too. it was the adrenaline that rushed to his body that convinced him he was fine, only to later find out how badly he’d been wounded. 

        hesitation clouds his thoughts, brows furrowed as her words register against his ears. he wanted to help her, wanted to make sure that she’d really be okay. but if all he could do was offer her a distraction, a cover from their friends, well ... he’d oblige. curious eyes trail back toward her, brows raised. ❛ i gotcha, ❜ he affirms, ❛ just ... take care of yourself, okay ? ❜ there’s a certain softness to his voice, one that was usually reserved for those closest to him. his heart aches lightly in his chest for her, understanding without needing clarification for her actions. cloud never would’ve thought there was a duality to jessie, she always seemed to be this larger than life, upbeat, crazy head-strong girl. but what lied beneath the surface ?

to think that reno could cleanly get away with his tawdry shroud of secrecy — the redhead has his own naiveté to blame. yet, his brows draw downwards by nature of his instinct — the thoughtless instinct to survive in a world that works against him. with the way cloud shuts him out, an invisible force curls around his own throat and hinders his ability to breathe, and survival becomes the only thing he can commit to. 

“get out?” he parrots incredulously, “you’re tellin’ me to get out? just because i won’t tell you about that stupid goddamn birth certificate?”

the words are a blazing fire on his tongue, but evaporate into an icy frost in the air as they are spoken. it is cold — just as he is cold in this moment. “—i already said it ain’t important, yet you’re on my ass telling me to leave. just what kinda boyfriend are you?”

       it didn’t actually matter -- did it ? should it ? the blonde can’t fight the feeling that there was more to the story. it wasn’t just a birth certificate, it was reno’s old life. before shinra, before reno. he wasn’t entitled to knowing the details of the man’s former identity, after all. there were things that cloud hadn’t disclosed to him, either, though it wasn’t because he was keeping them a secret. ❛ if it’s not important... you should have no problem talking about it. ❜ the merc gulps, mako dusted hues searching the room for somewhere to look that wasn’t reno.

       tifa and cloud had always had some unspoken connection, and cloud wouldn’t be the first one to voice it. they understood each other even without the verbal reassurances; they took care of each other. be it because cloud had promised her a long while ago, or because he cared for the girl -- he would be there for her. no matter what. tonight was no different, he’d been studying her mannerisms at the bar and how out of it she appeared. she was there physically, but not mentally. the merc is almost reluctant to touch on the subject, figuring if tifa wanted to talk about things then she would. though, hours pass and cloud can’t shake the thoughts from his own head.
