"A sock to the gut, Chrom? I was under the impression men liked having beautiful women comment on their musculature. But if I have truly insulted you, I apologize.”
"Er... no, it's quite all right. I was just taken aback by the thought that you thought of my deltoids as, er, bulging. That's quite horrific to imagine. Um. I'll just... go get Lissa now."
"And now you don’t want to entertain me? Was it the deltoid comment? It was entirely in jest, you know. You wouldn’t abandon me over a small, friendly prod, would you?"
"Though I wouldn’t object if you brought Lissa."
"A prod? You call a sock to the gut a prod, Maribelle?"
"On second thought, maybe I won't get Lissa."
"Ah, my favorite exalt of the bulging deltoid kingdom comes to my aid. Boredom does not sleep, unfortunate as it is."
"Bulging d----" A pause. "Should I get Lissa."
"I demand entertainment!"
"At this hour?"

The man on the steed — the heroic-looking man — decides to approach and leaves his wyvern to snort. Naturally, she doesn’t approve but the rider himself doesn’t seem to mind. Anything that he can fight he can escape and this includes the man before him. However, he doesn’t consider him an enemy yet as he wears the face of a man that’s glad to assist anyone in need. His greeting is short but welcoming as Shinjirou turns his ride towards him, her head bowed low to sniff out his horse. ” … are you … ? Good to know, then I’ll follow you. If it’s any consolation, I know my way around a battlefield. ” It’s all he’s good at, and he’ll help if this man helps him in return.
The leader’s voice lifts above the rain, he hears his statement clearly through the murky sounds surrounding him. ’ No Plegians in their right mind will dare approach you ’ … did he really mean that? He’s a wanted man now, but now that he’s at the borders — they wouldn’t think of chasing after him past their own lands as it’s beyond their control unless they’re that desperate. The rider doubts they are, he’s not one of high importance, just a soldier with no lands to flee to. His first though was Ylisse, so he decided to go there after their scrape with escaping. And now here he is, in front of a man that will guide him past the muddy wasteland and into safe borders.
He commands Merida to hop closer to the mysterious man, resting when she spots a cleric — investigating his person while he himself talks. ” .. thanks. I appreciate it. Just take me there and I’ll owe you a lot more than just a little pocket change. ” Shinjirou sighs lightly, glancing towards the cleric who shines his staff on the both of them. There’s a sense of ease in his action and he takes it for the time being. As long as he has someone to guide him past the borders, he’ll be fine. His guard stays up, but he’ll take their word for it.
" … what brings you to this place, anyway? You don’t even look like you’re from here .. "
The man is wary, but he'll take his offer to guide and protect him, it seemed. It mattered not how defensive he was, it mattered that he was a good man at heart, solely trying to protect himself and what he believed in. It was probably all he had left to his name. A brief chuckle left the king as he waved off the rider's debt with his hand. "Money is not what I seek from aiding you," Chrom reassured, urging his steed to continue marching forth at a steady pace to lead the troops behind him. "In fact, it'd be of no use to me, personally. All I want is for you to be within safe borders ---- enough blood has been shed on these lands."
Blue eyes stared far ahead, a grim look casting shadows over his eyes as he remembered times of war and grief. Things had not been easy back then ---- and although conditions have improved far from what they used to be, it still wasn't something the ruler could laugh off as easily as he had with this rogue's promise of repaying him. When questioned about his motives in being so far from the halidom itself, Chrom offered a light shrug in response. "Ah, well, that's good, then. I purposefully came out to the borders without a disguise to pose as a threat to any Plegians who bore harmful intent, you see." He hoped his words implied he was of importance to the man, as it was a bit embarrassing for him still to outright state that he was, indeed, the ruling exalt of the halidom this rider sought for. "Though, to be fair, I could ask you the same. Were you being chased, prior to the battle you spoke of?" Without a word, his sentry and pegusus knights reformed their formation to better fit their new goal of escorting both their king and their new acquaintance to safety. Chrom and the rider marched in the center of the troops now, accompanied by a few healers as a precaution ---- though none of the sudden and mass rearranging around them affected the king's concentration for even a second. "Ah, it's a little late, but you may call me Chrom."
"Shall I get Lissa?"
"... Maribelle. I'm glad you're enjoying my misery."

Falling asleep again … … how many days are going to go by … there’s so much rain …
Plegian borders are empty sans a lone man taking shelter under the wing of his wyvern, the wyvern itself sheltering the rest of its body in a very shallow cave — it only fits half of the body of the monster. It led Shinjirou to ask his friend of sorts to give him coverage from the light rain that’s now steadily falling harder and harder. ” … it’s going to be a long day, Merida … might as well take a bath in this weather … ” He resigns his spot to sit at her chest, opting for a better position and time for her to rest her tired wing. After a long trip away from Plegia’s inner towns, he decides to rest here for a breather not only for himself, but for the wyvern as well. She was wheezing earlier after a fight that he had to escape and after an hour of napping, they were going to take off until the rain struck. We’re stuck, now, he reminds himself before nestling against her elongated collarbone while she makes a noise detest over something she hears in the distance.
" .. what is it, now … ? " She sneers at the incoming caravan slowly approaching, but doesn’t make a move, rather Merida awaits for her master to climb onto the saddle to engage in a fight — … however, Shinjirou isn’t moving despite the noise. " .. it’s probably just some passing travelers, Merida .. leave it. " Even with his reassurance, she persists in making a scene. The rider sighs, she leaves him little choice but to ride and he finally makes a move to stand up, taking his axe — embedded in the mud under the cave’s shelters — and moves to climb into her back, reigns in his hand. " … don’t do anything until I say it’s alright. No moving on your own, you hear? I don’t want you hot-headed like last time … " He lifts his gaze to a man of great stature. The blue hair, long billowing cape — the presence alone reminds him of a hero from the stories he used to hear in the orphanages he moved around as a child.
Tales of the prince — Tales of the great hero Marth. But this man is anything but, he’s merely just a passing stranger with a caravan. Taking the reigns, he pulls Merida to face another direction while he keeps his eye on the cobalt male. He wonders where this man hails from, finally making a move to ask. ” .. hey! ” Shinjirou lowers his axe to his side to signal he’s not looking for a fight. ” … do you know where the Haildom of Ylisse is? I’m headed there, but not really too sure where to go. ” He pulls the reigns again when the wyvern snorts in disdain. She’s looking for a chance to swing in and attack, but he keeps his hold on her well — but lowers his hand with the reigns to pat her head lightly. ” .. calm down, will you .. ? Just because they have weapons doesn’t mean they’ll attack you .. ” Pausing momentarily, he sighs. He probably looked hostile because of the behavior of his wyvern, though he didn’t want to start a fight here, not on the borders of a country he sought to leave. ” Sorry, she’s just agitated because we were attacked on the way out of Plegia .. so you mind giving me directions? “
Days after the war were known to be one of peace and stability, but that was no excuse for a ruling king to assume that it would forever be so. Not that his beloved home did not deserve eternal serenity for all generations to come, but fate usually was not so kind. And Chrom was well acquainted with fate. Although his right hand man insisted that the ruling exalt stay back within the castle walls where it was safe, Chrom would have none of it. His people needed to be reassured through actions as well as words; the former being more meaningful even if he had each and every citizen's full trust. It just wouldn't sit right with him if he didn't make rounds around the capital's borders at the very least. His sense of duty wouldn't let him. In comparison, Chrom was but a shadow's resemblance to the iconic king of the past. He knew only tales and legends, and the slightest trail left by his late father ---- although he strove to be a dependable leader, he has a feeling his impact in the history books is still quite little. His comrades will surely tell him otherwise, but the king knew the truth of the matter. He couldn't stop now. So while the heavy rain beat down on him and his tired troops that followed close to their commander, Chrom's posture on his steed remained tall and proud, emitting power through the furrowed look of his eyes alone. When shouts from the lookouts reached his ears, the king raised his gaze to said approaching, lone soldier on what seemed to be a feisty wyvern. A small nostalgic smile brushed his features briefly at the sight, reminded of a certain friend, but cleared his thoughts as he rode up front to signal that he was the one in charge. "My good man," he began with an affirmative nod, raising a hand to ease his tense soldiers that had gripped their weapons tight in wary of this supposed lone man. Not all were so trusting as the ruler of Ylisse, after all. "You've run in to quite some luck. We're headed there ourselves ---- in fact, one might call it our home." A look of sympathy crossed the king's face, but it was hard to tell from all the squinting from the rain. One thing was obvious: both this man and his wyvern were showing clear signs of fatigue, and Chrom was not one to shun away someone who was in need. "No Plegians in their right mind will dare approach you should you march with us. I give you my word." Falchion rested heavy against his side with responsibility, but he was capable of holding his ground. A gloved hand was waved in an attempt to beckon the man to fly closer. A cleric was summoned forth with his landing, and a brief casting of magic that would cloak the rider in defense was made. "Stay close, friend."
When the owner of the familiar coat and unfamiliar face looked up to meet the pure blue gaze of the halidom’s ruler, something unfriendly glinted in his eyes that belied the smile which overtook his mouth a moment later (perhaps a smidgen too widely). The disarming smile, and not the hostile squint, should be what made an impression — since the hood still cast a shadow over the shorter man’s eyes.
Momentarily, that smirk leveled into a polite quirk of the lips and Robin tossed his head back to unveil the remainder of his face, sans spite.
"I suppose not, if you must pose the question. My name is Robin." Robin knew only too well with whom he himself was speaking, though he guessed that it must not be the same man he’s familiar with — after all, that man was rather dead. Nonetheless, he asked, “And you?”
A seasoned leader he may be on the battlefield, but in terms of making acquaintances, Chrom was still a bit too trusting of others. Although a moment of silence passed as the stranger greeted him in return with guarded words, a warm smile graced the ruler's face as the hand resting on Falchion's hilt was drawn away to instead offer the man a hand to shake. "Forgive me if I seemed too forward," he tried explaining himself with a small laugh, "I don't seem to recall ever meeting a Robin in my life, yet I felt... compelled to ask." Strange, it was; yet simultaneously foreboding. An eerie feeling settled on his shoulders, but the exalt shook it off. Robin seemed like a kind fellow. Exalt or not, he had no right to judge!
"Still, it's a pleasure, Robin. With my luck, I had thought I'd come across another amnesiac... ah, never mind. My name is Chrom."
