My piece for the @zineoftideandflesh. Carpenter in the Sorrow-And-Shame.

This color print was one of ten that Mary Cassatt exhibited at the Gallerie Durand-Ruel, Paris, in 1891, and shows the extent to which she had absorbed techniques from Japanese art into her own style. Edgar Degas, upon seeing this print, exclaimed, "I do not admit that a woman can draw like that!"--a distinctly odd thing to say, given that he was a friend and sometime collaborator of Cassatt.

Even now, still thinking about him.
